Mexico’s Best Bartender Fatima León of Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City Prepares to Compete on the Global Stage at DIAGEO World Class 2017

Event brings together more than 50 top mixologists from around the world in a rigorous, multi-stage competition to be held in Mexico City August 20-25, 2017

Crowned Mexico’s Best Bartender 2017 this past April, Fatima León is preparing for the most important event of her career as she represents her country in the DIAGEO World Class 2017 competition, taking place in her hometown August 20-25, 2017.

One of the expert mixologists behind the bar at Fifty Mils, the city’s most innovative bar located within Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City, Fatima won the World Class country final for Mexico with her original drink, the No Time Cocktail.  Presented to the jury in a traditional tea cup, the cocktail features Johnnie Walker Gold Label, black tea with bergamot, lime, European goldenrod, daffodil milk, Angostura bitters and mint bitters.  Fatima also included oleo-saccharum, a concoction developed by 19th century bartenders, comprised of citrus oil and sugar.  The No Time Cocktail is a unique hot drink that from the first sip is at once surprising, stimulating and comforting, thanks to its notes of tea and citrus. As with many great cocktails, it’s the second sip that tells the full story, as the liquid calms the palate and invites further enjoyment.

The World Class Mexico competition also included creation of a pop up concept bar, which Fatima called Atemporal (“timeless”) to reflect its relaxed atmosphere, where she served both the No Time Cocktail as well as another submission to the jury, the Mr. Bean.  This second original cocktail featured mezcal and a mixture of beans with bourbon, pineapple and lime juice, bitters and tonic water.

“I don’t know what challenges the World Class 2017 competition will bring, but I am ready to share the wonderful culture of Mexico – so full of flavours, creativity and colours – with my presentation,” says Fatima.
