Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City Brings to its Interiors the Colours and Flavours of the Day of the Dead
- Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City celebrates the Day of the Dead, the festivity with the most tradition in Mexico
- An display made by Óscar Soteno and culinary surprises define the season at the Hotel
Mexico’s Day of the Dead is one of the festivities that causes the most admiration and delight among the country’s visitors, because of its colour and particular way to celebrate those loved ones that are no longer with us. Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City is always searching to offer something unique to its visitors, and 2018 won’t be an exception.
Those who visit the iconic stairs of the Hotel leading up to November 2 will see a display that is both homage for the dead and a work of art, made by Óscar Soteno, a renowned artist who, together with his family, has created “trees of life,” which have been exhibited in places such as Museo de Arte Popular, the Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares, the British Museum and the Museo de Antropología e Historia.
Óscar Soteno decided to recreate for this occasion a Mexican wedding, which will be a first in his successful career. “I wanted to represent an authentic Mexican party, and a wedding fit perfectly. In this 'tree of life' we included not only the characteristic skulls of the Day of the Dead, but also fruits, food and flowers, everything made exclusively of clay, which makes this work of art something special.”
It’s also special for a couple of details. The first one is the size, which will surprise more than one with its 1.5 metre height and 1 metre width (5 by 3.25 feet), and also the colour that distinguishes the trees of life made by Óscar that have made him a worldwide respected artist. The other detail worth mentioning is for the art fanatics, because they’ll be able to appreciate the genius of Diego Rivera, who was the one who taught Óscar’s father the technique to better preserve the colour on the clay, the same technique that is used in this particular tree of life.
Following the familiar tradition and everything that his father taught him from childhood, Óscar is full of joy when knowing that his work and effort are being recognised more every day, because his work can be found not only on museums, but also in the Zaxic store located in Santa Fe, a place for all the artisans who want to evolve and are looking for their work to be noticed.
The Delicacies of the Seasons, with the Four Seasons touch
The Day of the Dead is always accompanied by the Bread of the Dead, a culinary delicacy that Mexicans wait during all year to enjoy this season. For those who visit the Four Seasons, they can go to Pan Dulce and discover for themselves why the Bread of the Dead made by Berenice Sulmont is an experience they cannot miss. Using the best ingredients, the special twist of this baked delight resides in its touched of orange, whipped cream, mascarpone cheese and activated carbon, a surprise of this 2018 that represents the ashes of our loved ones.
But the surprises don’t end here; Zanaya restaurant has prepared a special menu that for a limited time will evoke the Mexican flavours of this time of the year and will fulfill the senses of everyone who enjoys this experience.
For those who love to celebrate what it means to be Mexican, visiting Four Seasons during the season of Day of the Dead is an experience they won’t forget.
