Osaka, Japan

Four Seasons Hotel Osaka announces the appointment of Priyanka Chowdhury as its new Director of Spa. With more than 18 years of experience in luxury wellness, Priyanka steps into her new role with a clear vision - to establish the newly opened Hotel as the premier wellbeing destination in the city.

“We are thrilled to welcome Priyanka to the team. With her extensive experience, including pre-opening and post-opening appointments, she will undoubtedly take our spa to new heights,” says General Manager Alastair McAlpine.

Taking charge of the Hotel’s wide-ranging wellness offerings, Priyanka is set to introduce a selection of comprehensive multi-day programs - the first of their kind in Osaka - encompassing everything from spa treatments and fitness activities to breathwork, meditation, cuisine and more. Merging the healing essence of Japan with the global expertise of Four Seasons, these journeys will be tailored to meet different wellness objectives, such as better sleep, stress management, teenage concerns, women’s health and more.

“People are investing more in self-care than ever before. With our curated programs, guests will have the opportunity to pause, reset and renew in an exceptionally inspiring setting,” explains Priyanka, listing the virtues that set apart the wellness experience at Four Seasons Hotel Osaka: a dedicated floor for all wellness facilities, sweeping views of the city’s rivers and waterways, public and private ofuro (Japanese baths) with bespoke rituals, and a collection of exemplary brands from Japan and beyond.

Honouring cherished Japanese traditions is at the top of Priyanka’s priority list; already, she and her team are working with local experts to craft unique offerings rooted in the wisdom of Japan. Guests can look forward to exclusive events with visiting practitioners, an expanded selection of Japanese treatments, and locally produced signature items at the Spa boutique.

“We will also be enhancing the experience for our resident members, who will soon find new ways to immerse in the best of global wellness right here in Osaka,” notes Priyanka. As an accomplished yoga teacher, she will personally be leading yoga workshops in the coming months and is excited to share the benefits of this ancient practice from her homeland.

Priyanka comes to vibrant Osaka from the balmy shores of Phu Quoc island in Vietnam, where she served as cluster director of wellness and recreation for a well-known hotel brand, launching key initiatives such a sleep-focused program and a “green” tour. Prior to that, she spent four years honing her leadership skills at a luxury hotel in Guangzhou, China, where she oversaw the entire spectrum of wellness offerings, including the kids’ club and recreational activities.

Fuelled by her willingness to embrace new challenges, Priyanka’s wellness career has taken her to diverse destinations, from Thailand and Malaysia to Dubai and the Maldives. Through it all, her favourite part of the job has always been talking to guests to understand their needs and goals. As she explains, “Wellness works best when it is personalized to the individual.”

Yoga was Priyanka’s gateway to the wider world of wellness. She was all of six when she joined a yoga school in her hometown of Kolkata, India, going on to win awards at the state, national and international level. Cheered on by her father - “my biggest champion!” - at every step, she has taught yoga on a plethora of stages, sharing her passion and knowledge with wellbeing-seekers around the world.

“Yoga isn’t just my career, it’s also my medicine. Besides undeniable health benefits, it has also given me the gift of routine and patience,” says Priyanka, who has a diploma in yoga, another in sports and allied sciences, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. An avid traveller, she is now looking forward to exploring Japan’s rich healing heritage, all the way from big cities to remote villages. She also happens to love amusement parks: “I can’t wait to go to Universal Studios and Disneyland!”

Spa and Wellness at Four Seasons

Encompassing the entire 36th floor of the Hotel, The Spa at Four Seasons is a sky-high oasis of relaxation, indulgence and wellbeing. With soothing hues and curving lines, each space flows into the next as guests immerse in the healing connection of water throughout. Five spa treatment rooms – including a couple’s room with private bath – all offer lofty city views. Signature rituals include a 100-minute, high performance facial inspired by the legendary Empress Kōmyō, whose name signifies brightness and radiance; and a series of bath experiences harnessing the healing properties of seasonal herbs. Along with a range of massages, facials and body treatments uniquely created for this spa, busy guests can also choose a mini-treat from a menu of 15-30 minute “Quick Replenishers.” Wellness facilities also include ofuro (Japanese baths that have been an important part of daily life in Osaka for centuries) and sauna, a 16 metre (52 foot) indoor pool that appears to spill through windows into the city’s network of waterways, and a 24/7 fitness centre with motivating floor-to-ceiling views across the city.
