Adventures Abound with New Programming at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North
Guests can indulge their inner adventurer with a series of new offerings at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, provided in partnership with leading local adventure operator Arizona Outback Adventures. Kayak the Verde River, take in the beauty of the McDowell Mountains on a scenic hike, or head out for a bike excursion around Troon Mountain.
“Adventure and our desert surroundings go hand-in-hand,” says Resort Manager Marc Bromley. “Four Seasons offers the ideal location from which to stage a multitude of excursions, catering to all types of fitness levels and interests.”
"Four Seasons is the perfect location for an active adventure getaway," adds Seth Heald, founder of Arizona Outback Adventures. "Guests have their choice of everything from mountain biking and kayaking to stand up paddle boarding and hiking. What makes the Four Seasons unique is its proximity to the world class trail system and natural landscape of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Less time in the vehicle and more time on the trail allows our guides to truly immerse the guests in the Sonoran Desert experience."
Guests can choose from the following new adventures:
Sonoran Desert Sunrise Stroll - The Marcus Landslide trail leading from Tom’s Thumb trailhead in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve gently contours around the base of the steeper surrounding slopes. Guests can take their time, appreciating the whimsically-sculpted granite boulders, listening for calls of seasonal songbirds, and enjoying the Sonoran sunrise as it illuminates the saguaro forest. This excursion emphasises desert education, maximising opportunities for taking photos and learning about the flora and fauna of the Preserve. This tour is suitable for guests of all ages and ability levels, although proper footwear is required (closed toe athletic-type shoes).
Bright Side of the Troon - This adventure begins right from Four Seasons, where guests are fitted for special hybrid bikes outfitted with road tires that excel on paved surfaces. After donning helmets and listening to a brief safety orientation, set out for a scenic pedal around Troon Mountain and Pinnacle Peak. Circle these prominent landmarks near the hotel on a series of bike lanes that wind through residential areas and on-wide shouldered desert byways. Along the way, stop for photos, discussions of native vegetation and glimpses of spectacular custom homes located among gorgeous desert vistas. The guides will lead a ride at a pace that suits the casual rider.
Full-Day Adventure Kayaking - Although the true white-water rivers of Arizona are several hours from Scottsdale, the adventurous and athletic Four Seasons guest can experience a wilderness-style kayak tour on the nearby Verde River. The Verde has a magnificent, mature cottonwood-willow gallery forest, making it home to a diverse bird population. Fast channels through riverside vegetation provide exciting navigational challenges, and sweeping views of cliffs and dramatically located bald eagle nests. Between the fastwater chutes, the river pools in deep, slow, swimming holes and offers a leafy canopy to take a break from the sun. Proper clothing and secure footwear that can get wet are required. A picnic style lunch is included in this full-day adventure tour.
Double Downhill-Downstream Multisport Descent - This great day of “gravity powered” fun combines two high energy activities into an exhilarating, nonstop adventure cruise. The adventure begins by taking a short drive to a trailhead located midway up the slopes of the McDowell Mountains. From there, participants mount performance mountain bikes, letting gravity do much of the work while descending downhill into McDowell Mountain Park and the famous Pemberton trail. Next, guests trade mountain bikes for stand up paddle boards for an adventure on the Verde River. Guests should be in reasonably good condition to fully enjoy this active multi-sport adventure.
