Lace Up for the Terry Fox Run 2024: Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler Announces Annual Fundraiser for September 15
Walkers, runners, bikers, or skaters – prepare (and rejoice!). On September 15, 2024, the team at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler invites guests and the local community to participate in a charity run – a beloved Canadian tradition, in honour of Terry Fox, with all proceeds going towards innovative cancer research. Open to all, registration begins at 9:00 am at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler, located at 4591 Blackcomb Way. The event will run from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
After registering in the courtyard, participants can fuel themselves with a light, nutritious breakfast, and freshly brewed coffee (available by donation). A local fitness instructor will lead an energizing warm-up session, prepping participants to give it their all for a good cause. The run loops towards Lost Lake and then back to the Resort, offering phenomenal views to distract from the mileage. The course offers a 4.2 kilometre fun run, and a 7.2 kilometre sports run.
Upon returning to the Resort, participants can indulge in a mouth-watering Four Seasons lunch – made for champions (all who take part). A silent auction after the run will feature exceptional prizes, including stays at Four Seasons Toronto and Four Seasons Hotel Los Cabos, vouchers for Whistler activities and restaurants, and much more. The funds collected during this event will support the Terry Fox Foundation, fuelling impactful research conducted by the Terry Fox Research Institute, with a focus on advancements that directly benefit patients' lives.
Terry Fox and the Marathon of Hope
In the spirit of perseverance and determination, Terry Fox's legacy continues to inspire. After losing his leg to osteogenic sarcoma at the age of 18, Terry remained resolute in his mission to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. On April 12, 1980, he began his Marathon of Hope with the goal of raising CAD 1 million. Courageously embarking on a run across Canada, Terry braved the elements (snow, sleet, rain, and scorching temperatures) leaving an indelible mark on the world. Just 24 days into his run, his goal expanded to raising CAD 1 from every Canadian. To date, more than CAD 850 million has been raised by the Terry Fox Foundation, bringing hope and resources to cancer patients and their families.
Though Terry was unable to complete his run - after 143 days and approximately 5,370 kilometres (3,340 miles), cancer spread to his lungs - his determination to see a world free from cancer persisted. For many Canadians, Terry Fox is a symbol of strength and pride, demonstrating that one person can make a difference. He called on communities across the country to continue supporting his Marathon of Hope, creating a ripple effect that endures.
A Lasting Legacy
The annual Terry Fox Run has grown into a cherished fall tradition spanning more than 600 communities, with Canadians coast to coast uniting once again to support or participate.
