Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, USA

While Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel is certainly known for its comfortable beds, exemplary customer service and legendary history, you might not be surprised to know it is also known for its impressive art collection. Providing guests with a sensory experience that exceeds their emotional and physical expectation, the Hotel’s curated art collection elevates and stimulates the senses, allowing for a unique and memorable, as well as life enriching experience.

Accommodations

Upon undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2022, it was imperative to also upgrade the art inside of our accommodations. The artwork chosen for our guest rooms and suites has been positioned asymmetrically and sometimes overlapping to bring a subtle sense of informality to the spaces:

  • Oval Seascape Suspended by Leather Straps, Palm Leaf Ink Print and Floral Cyanotype Grey Printed on Fine Art Paper were all curated by Art Squared, an artist-based collective that brings together international artists, designers and craftspeople to create handcrafted artwork inspired by nature, architecture and fashion, conveying both an intellectual and emotional experience to the viewer.
  • In Line Drawing Print with Hanging Detail, David Cantu uses line art technique where the creation of the image takes place through a continuous line. This drawing captures the silhouette of two faces, adding a layer of contemporary freshness to the rooms, providing a contrast to the Art Deco-inspired geometric patterns present in the accommodations.
  • Christina Ott has taken inspiration from the thoughtfully designed Art Deco-style interior spaces of the Hotel to create a unique geometric pattern using gold leafing techniques in Gold Leaf Art Deco Pattern On Paper.

In our Specialty Suites, KES Studio developed a highly curated residential art program by focusing on varied mediums commonly found in a private collection such as photography, acrylic, mixed media, and plaster.

  • For instance, in the Governor Suite is a diptych print entitled Aether by Alison Cooley. The unique black, white and camel abstract piece provides a dynamic yet complementary experience to the colour scheme in the room.
  • In the Wilshire Presidential Suite is photograph Splash Black by Alberto Seveso. This zestful, black and white impressionistic piece perfectly accents the soft, neutral colour palette in the living room, and sits on a contemporary acrylic easel creating an unexpected art moment for the guest.
  • Over in the Beverly Presidential Suite, black and white paintings and abstract photography such as Imagined Line by Christina Craemer and Fruity Ramen by Jason Demeo, were selected to further enhance the bold area rugs and bedroom carpet.

Then there are two pieces prominently on display in our guest room corridors.

  • The first from Art Squared is entitled Palm Tree Boulevard. It’s a beautiful print that highlights the Hotel’s local seascape and landscape surrounding.
  • The other pieces are photographs of Maryam Keyhani by Katherine Holland. The photos are a nod to the timeless glamour and prestige of Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel.

CUT

Prominently on display inside Michelin-starred CUT restaurant are pieces from John Baldessari’s W/Studio 54 Series. The art is made with archival lightjet print laminated with lexan and mounted on dibond, acrylic paint.

  • W/Studio 54 Series: Person with Yellow Gloves / Person with Red Handbag, 2010
  • W/Studio 54 Series: Person Sitting on Stairs (With Handrail), 2010
  • W/Studio 54 Series: Person with One Leg Exposed / Person Kissing and Kneeling (With Onlookers), 2010

Robert Rauschenberg’s art further enhances the moody tones of CUT Lounge. On display is Wall Safe Glut, 1990, made out of aluminum and stainless steel while Palm Sunning (Phantom Series), 1991 is acrylic on mirrored aluminum.

Donning inside Petit CUT, the Private Dining Room at CUT, is a special piece by Ed Ruscha: He Wears An Anodized Uranium Business Suit, 2013, which is acrylic and pencil on canvas (currently on loan). Also featured are Martin Schoeller’s celebrity portraits from 2015 including Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Anne Hathaway, Lionel Messi and Cate Blanchett. Additionally, Chef Wolfgang Puck’s Martin Schoeller 2009 portrait is prominently on display at the entrance of the restaurant.

Main Lobby

The highlight in our main lobby is a gorgeous, crystal chandelier imported from the Czech Republic that weighs 720 pounds (325 kilograms) and is comprised of 266 crystal balls, 340 crystal rods and 922 crystal octagons.

Custom made in Spain by William Switzer, the unique centre table is a one-of-a kind piece composed of walnut on Movingui and Calacatta Borghini marble from Italy.

Jason Young's colourful acrylic glass panels catch eyes in the lobby with his trompe-l'œil techniques.
