The Art of Tea Appreciation
Partnering with yú teahouse, Lung King Heen at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong presents a table-side tea ceremony performance for guests every evening. Tea drinking is an art form and the sequence of steps to serving tea is both mesmerizing to watch and at the same time, educational. This mindful activity allows you to slow down and appreciate the present moment.
Choosing your tea—There are eight tea categories to choose from and the tea master will show you the best tea to drink in every season for gaining optimal health benefits.
Warming up your tools—The tea master will heat the tea cups with hot water so when hot water is poured on tea leaves, the aroma permeates the air.
Washing tea leaves—This is dependent on the type of tea; some may not need washing.
Pouring tea—The tea connoisseur only fills the cup three quarters full and the remaining quarter is filled with gratitude from the host.
The tea master will go through three steps on how to appreciate tea:
- Observe the colour of the tea
- Taste test by swirling the tea in the mouth
- Notice the after taste
After this mini experience, you will take away the basics of tea appreciation and one of the most important things—the proper way of holding a Chinese tea cup.
