As the Regional Director of Engineering and one of the ESG Leads at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, Savio Leung plays a pivotal role in shaping our sustainability strategy. His efforts not only align with the global Four Seasons ESG goals but also drive meaningful change within the property.

“Each day presents a new opportunity to innovate and make a difference. One of our proudest achievements is our groundbreaking food waste recycling program, which has reduced our carbon emissions by an impressive seven times. As the first hotel in Hong Kong to implement this initiative, we utilize an in-house composting machine that pre-treats food waste through anaerobic digestion, capturing biogas for further processing,” he says.

“In addition to minimizing waste, we collaborate with Foodlink, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger, to donate excess food from our operations. This initiative not only uplifts the community but also aligns our sustainability goals,” shares Savio.

As an ESG lead, Savio conducts monthly meetings with internal stakeholders, fostering collaborations, enhance sustainability efforts across the property, and ensure a positive, enduring impact on the local community. Here are more highlights of the property’s sustainability initiatives:

  • Plant-Based Dining: The property’s commitment to sustainability shines through in the vegetarian and vegan menu options available at The Lounge, Lung King Heen, Pool Terrace, and in-room dining. In particular, the vegan afternoon tea set created by Ringo Chan, Executive Pastry Chef, replaces butter or any animal byproduct with coconut oil. It is an all-time favourite for health-conscious patrons. These offerings, along with delectable dishes made from locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, enhance overall dining experience while contributing to a reduced environmental footprint.
  • Going Local:  ARGO joins forces with local distillery N.I.P creating a botanical spirit, which highlights the essence of ARGO - innovation. It combines botanicals and elements unique to Hong Kong, such as bamboo canes, Lalang grass roots, locally grown perfume lemons, local eucalyptus honey, chrysanthemum, Tieguanyin tea, ginger leaves, peppercorns and rice wine, creating an unparalleled experience for the discerning palate. This is a true Hong Kong spirit that embodies Hong Kong’s heritage, agriculture, and craftsmanship.
  • Elimination of Single-Use Plastics: The elimination of single-use plastic food and beverage containers, water bottles, and bathroom toiletries through the use of biodegradable materials helps protect the environment and promotes sustainable practices for a healthier planet.

“Through these efforts, we’re not just participating in sustainability; we’re leading the charge for a greener future. Join us in celebrating Earth Day and our commitment to making a difference!” says Savio.
