Watch Muay Thai Fights Live in Koh Samui

Considered Thailand’s national sport and receiving worldwide acclaim, watching a live Muay Thai fight is often on top of the to-do list when in Thailand. And while Bangkok is at the heart, Koh Samui brings an island fervour to this kickboxing tradition. Here are two of the best places to catch a Muay Thai fight on the island:
Chaweng Stadium
Established more than 20 years ago by Kensen Poonsawat, Chaweng Stadium is the first boxing stadium on the island. “Fighters from Thailand and all over the world come to learn this ancient martial art here,” explains Anuphong Deesamer, Muay Thai Coach at Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui. “The arena holds six battles, twice a week. In keeping with tradition, it begins with the wai khru (warm up) and the fun element is added between battles as DJs and entertainers take centre stage,” he explains.
Through the years, the stadium has worked with numerous adolescents in an attempt to keep them out of trouble, by offering them a spot to fight in a protected environment. “The majority of the staff at Chaweng Stadium are allowed to train and fight alongside their jobs. They have helped several foundations, work with the community and the local institutions to preserve this traditional sport,” adds Anuphong.
Phetch Bancha Samui Boxing Stadium
At this stadium, guests can appreciate various kinds of fights – from enthusiastic amateurs to experienced professionals – with traditional Thai music and leading commentators adding the perfect mood. “Regardless of whether you are in the stands, close to the ring or in the VIP zone, you will be amazed by the movie-like atmosphere, enhanced by the cries of local people in support of their champs!” he smiles.
At Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, the Muay Thai Adventure is a full-day immersion in the “Art of Eight Limbs," a much-needed Muay Thai Recovery at The Secret Garden Spa, and an evening of ring-side Muay Thai fights with VIP seats at the stadium. Anuphong plays perfect host, guiding guests through the nuances of this special martial art.
