Colombian Character Inspires Creative Makeover of the Penthouse Suite of Four Seasons Hotel Bogota

Bogota, Colombia

Four Seasons Hotel Bogota didn’t have to search far for inspiration to make over its top-of-the-line accommodation: It found it in its own backyard. From dazzling hues to vivid plant and animal prints, and an artisan-made rug laid out atop the hardwood floor, the Hotel’s newly renovated Penthouse Suite combines distinctive characteristics drawn from Colombia with Four Seasons-style luxury and comfort.

Hugging the eastern edge of the Hotel’s 8th floor, the Penthouse Suite stretches 115 square metres (1,238 square feet) including a private terrace outfitted with all-weather furniture and views overlooking the streets of Zona Rosa and rooftops and buildings beyond. Sized for two adults or a couple with one child, the Penthouse Suite is roomy and bright with arched floor-to-ceiling windows flooding sunlight, a large combination living room and dining area with a wood-burning fireplace, and a master bedroom with a king-size bed and a full spa-like bath. There is also a pantry and a powder room off the main space, and both the living room and bedroom access the terrace through glass doors.

Building off of contemporary décor found throughout the Hotel’s other 62 guest rooms and suites, an in-house design team spent several months envisioning the renovation of the Penthouse Suite, seeking out craftspeople from various regions to turn the space into a celebration of the biodiversity, culture and artisanship of Colombia.

New soft-textured furnishings, including a couch and lounger in the living room and seating for eight around the dining table, are the same vibrant green as Colombian emeralds, reflecting the country’s rich history in the emerald trade and status as the world’s number one provider of the precious gems – renowned as the purest in the world.

The couch and lounger bookend a new rug from VERDI, a local family-owned textile studio that is reinterpreting tradition to create homeware, fashion and art through unique techniques. Handmade by VERDI artisans, the rug is weaved with organic silk and copper threads, making it soft yet sturdy and a conversation piece for those intrigued by design. Speaking of which: Four Seasons Hotel Bogota offers an exclusive experience for guests at the VERDI Showroom located in Las Ferias in the heart of the city.

Eye-catching prints of broad-leaf plants, orchids, and various bird species on the main wall of the dining area and throughout the master bath are inspired by the incredible biodiversity of Colombia, found from grasslands to tropical forests, mountain habitats to islands. Also in the living room, an original artwork hung on the chimney above the fireplace pays homage to the country’s coastlines lapped by the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, a work that reflects the mesmerising beauty of waves and sand, and even has seashells attached.

A new recessed shelf in bedroom displays depictions of pre-Hispanic figures from San Agustin Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the largest collection of religious monuments and megalithic sculptures in Latin America. (The Archaeological Park is too distant for a day trip from Bogota, but a must-visit for travellers interested in the history and culture of the region. Ask the Concierge to arrange an excursion.)

The Colombian-inspired renovation of the Penthouse Suite is in keeping with other offerings throughout the Hotel, including the signature restaurant La Biblioteca with a new menu highlighting traditional and international dishes and cocktails created with local ingredients.

With its new design, the Penthouse Suite is a welcoming setting for leisure and business travellers, intimate for private getaways yet large enough for small meetings and gatherings. Priced at USD 2,500 per night (plus taxes), a stay in the Penthouse Suite includes Egyptian cotton sheets, daily amenities and fresh flowers – just for you.
