Surf the Waves of the Outer Amirantes: Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island Launches Partnership with Tropicsurf
First-timers to advanced wave riders can enjoy the secluded waters in this Seychelles water sports paradise
Adding to more than 70 island activities already offered, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island has announced a partnership with luxury surf operator Tropicsurf to offer all guests – from complete beginners to confident surfers – the opportunity to discover the secluded waves around Desroches Island throughout the year.
Australian luxury surf specialist Tropicsurf will offer a choice of surfing programs, with its 60-minute introductory "Lagoon Lesson" forming the foundation of the program for beginners, while experienced surfers can discover the very best offshore reef breaks as part of the "Ticket to Ride" program.
To provide greater opportunities for surfers to reach the island’s reef breaks, and as a first for Seychelles, Tropicsurf offers tow outs by jet ski. This service is used to transport surfers to the waves, and for the duration of their session, whereby professional instructors will provide jet ski assist after each wave to allow surfers to conserve energy and increase their wave count.
Mark Winson, Tropicsurf General Manager says: “In Desroches, surfing nirvana is available to accomplished surfers who seek a private island experience with zero crowds. Desroches represents the holy grail in this age of otherwise crowded lineups. To the contrary, guests can witness high-performance empty waves peel perfectly down the reef most days from the top tier of the resort’s Lighthouse restaurant.”
Tropicsurf’s top surfing locations around Desroches Island include:
- Bombay Beach sand patch – Perfect for first timers or intermediate surfers who are looking to touch up their skills after some time away from surfing, this sand patch is a safe area to practise all beginner and advanced fundamentals without the fear of large surf, rocks or other surfers.
- Bombay Right – A great wave for intermediate surfers seeking more power than Bombay Beach sand patch. With the wave breaking firstly at the start of the reef and then further again towards land, it provides a more powerful push compared to the sand patch, but without the intensity of the shallower reef which is at the start of a wave.
- Lighthouse point – The waves offshore from the Lighthouse offer the most advanced challenge, with hollow barrelling right and left waves for surfers to test their tube riding ability.
Nick Solomon, Resort Manager, says: “With such expansive, undisturbed waters, Desroches is a fantastic destination for so many water sports and I’m very excited to be adding surfing to our available activities. We are the only Resort on the island, which enables us to boast extensive coastline, with more than twenty different surfing options to explore. We have both challenging offshore breaks and protected lagoons available in different locations around the island all-year round.”
Tropicsurf programs are available for both group and private bookings, with a choice of Firewire surf boards available to hire for all guests partaking in Tropicsurf programs.
