Conserve with Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

August 20, 2021,
Golden Triangle, Thailand

The commitment to sustainability and conservation at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle is evident in the consistent efforts undertaken by the Camp team since the launch of the luxury glamping destination over a decade ago. “Our partnership with the local community and social projects in the region has been well-recognised. We continue to work together with our key beneficiaries, while always identifying new initiatives within the region,” shares Tobias Emmer, Camp Manager.

For the Love Of Gentle Giants

One of the most noteworthy associations of the Camp is with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, set up under the guardianship of the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, a government agency that focuses on the rescue and care of elephants that are rescued from the streets. “In addition to providing for the elephants, we are committed to supporting the mahouts and the communities that depend on these elephants for their livelihood,” says Tobias. Guests can visit the foundation to interact with the team and learn all about the comprehensive care provided to the elephants as well as the caregivers (mahouts) and their families.

Community Service

In addition to the elephant program, the Camp nurtures a strong sense of community providing support for local health care, schooling and other educational projects. “Guests can contribute to these initiatives as well as participate in them,” explains Tobias. The Camp team can organise for guests to host a lunch at The Sob Ruak Primary Schoo,l which is located in the local village Chiang Sean, a 20-minute drive away. “The Camp has been working closely with the school for several years and the students are regularly nominated for scholarships,” he continues. As part of the experience, guests can visit the school with the Camp Guides and support the teachers to host their daily lunch break with treats. For those who would like a more hands-on experience, guests can visit The Childlife Orphanage to host an educational afternoon session with the orphanage’s teachers and the Camp's Guide. “The orphanage, also known as Baan Nana, is home to children who come from challenging backgrounds (parents suffering from drug or alcohol abuse, financially-challenged hill tribe families and lower educational competencies),” shares Tobias.

Camp Experiences

From foraging walks to learning to cook a local meal, sustainability is the cornerstone of the dining experience here at the Camp. Back at the Camp, guests can have an immersive experience and learn a trade that’s prevalent along the Mekong. “Fishing techniques have developed over thousands of years, and our Fishing with Locals trip allows you to try first-hand fish trapping and bamboo fishing with local fishermen from the region,” shares Tobias. Boating along the Ruak Rive,r which straddles the border between Thailand and Myanmar, offers a unique insight into the local way of life, while supporting the livelihood of the community.

A Culmination of Art and Culture

The design and décor of Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle is a true reflection of the eclectic art and culture of Northern Thailand. From tents that are inspired by the cultural fabric of the region, to serve-ware and restaurant amenities made by local artisans, there’s a strong connection to the Northern way of life at this luxury Camp. “We provides an intimate experience to guests and want to ensure that by weaving in as many authentic experiences as possible, guests get a true flavour of travelling and living like a local in Northern Thailand,” smiles Tobias.
