Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo invites travellers to immerse themselves in one of the world’s most biodiverse regions through thoughtfully curated experiences rooted in nature, discovery, and connection.

From May through August 2026, the destination comes to life as migratory patterns shift, and landscapes turn lush and verdant, creating an ideal backdrop for exploration, serenity, and shared adventure. Set within 1,400 acres (570 hectare) of protected tropical dry forest, the resort offers direct access to wildlife, conservation-led excursions, and meaningful encounters with mother nature.

“What makes Peninsula Papagayo biodiversity so special is that here, guests can witness the beauty of nature and actively engage with it,” says Brent Martin, General Manager. “Through immersive, expert-led experiences guided by our Papagayo Explorers, we aim to foster a deeper connection to the natural world while preserving this extraordinary environment for generations to come.”

A Season of Discovery: Biodiversity at its Peak

Peninsula Papagayo thrives with wildlife throughout, home to hundreds of species across land and sea, with rare opportunities to engage with Costa Rica’s rich ecosystems. Guests can encounter more than 150 species of birds, from vibrant turquoise-browed motmots to elegant trogons, alongside howler monkeys, iguanas and other native wildlife that thrive throughout the peninsula.

  • Summer marks an ideal time to spot Humpback Whales, as these gentle giants migrate to the region’s warm waters from the end of July until autumn. Known for their spectacular breaching and melodic songs, the whales are a breathtaking sight during their migration.
  • Peninsula Papagayo is a birdwatcher's paradise, home to a variety of avian species that thrive in its lush landscapes. Guests can join an expert naturalist guide on a quest to spot as many primates as possible in the Looking For Monkeys tour.
  • Guests can venture into the Magical Mangroves, a natural sanctuary and thriving world unto itself. Mangroves are among the peninsula's ecological treasures, a labyrinthine refuge where tangled roots shelter an astonishing density of wildlife. Gliding through this world of living architecture by outrigger canoe or water bike, guests are immersed in one of the coast's most biodiverse ecosystems.
  • Beyond the waterways lies Palmares, offering raw, largely untouched wilderness navigated only by expert guides who know its hidden trails. This remote expanse shelters a remarkable range of species, and for the patient, quiet observer, even the elusive big cat has been known to reveal itself.
