There was no end of enticements to draw Hervé Fucho to the Caribbean for Four Seasons, but most appealing was the opportunity to deepen the brand’s connection to sustainable luxury. “I’m extremely passionate about sustainability, as there is really no other choice for hospitality than to protect natural resources and strengthen communities,” he says of his new turn as General Manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Dominican Republic at Tropicalia. “I share our owners’ passion, and welcoming guests to experience the region that inspired this amazing property is a dream come true.”

So, too, is delivering on Four Seasons promise of anticipatory service and high-touch luxury that guests travel to experience.  Hervé knows that promise well, having kept it for nearly three decades at Four Seasons addresses on three continents while changing his hat from Michelin chef to eco-conscious Resort Manager.

Whatever his focus, Hervé’s intention has always been to inspire the teams he leads to “think creativity and deliver as close to perfection as possible.” It’s an approach he learned working with Michelin-starred chefs early in his career, he explains. “They taught me to consider every element as essential to the experience.”

Born and raised in the walled city of Angouleme in southwestern France, Hervé grew up surrounded by sights, scents, and sounds of gastronomy, from clattering restaurants to buzzing street markets. While he benefited from a creative upbringing – his father designed home décor and his mother organized events – he was inspired to culinary by his grandfather, a longtime chef who fired his imagination with tales of professional kitchens.

Hervé went on to build cooking and management skills at hospitality school, where he was the only student to raise his hand on the last day of English class when the instructor asked if anyone was interested in joining a friend’s restaurant in London. After England, he moved on to Ireland, then landed in Germany where he hit his stride at two-Michelin-star restaurant in Frankfurt.

Even as his success grew, Hervé realized his future lay beyond the kitchen. “When I became an executive chef, I thought about what I was going to do for the next 30 years and knew there were other avenues to pursue.” The skills he built at Four Seasons restaurants in Hong Kong transferred to operations, first at company’s former address in St. Petersburg, Russia, then at Tamarindo in Mexico, where he led the creation of a sustainable farm to connect guests to local agricultural traditions.

Now in a groove in the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, Hervé enjoys spending time with his two daughters, tending to his succulents, and outdoor pursuits including kite surfing, windsurfing, and sky diving.
