Director of Rooms, Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero

For Mackenzie Sappe, hospitality has always been personal. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, with a father who is a trained chef and hotel veteran, she developed an early appreciation for the dynamic, high-energy world of hospitality. Stories of kitchen adventures and guest experiences were part of everyday life. By the time she was 14, Mackenzie was already plating dishes and working offsite events at her father’s catering company, where she discovered her love for creating memorable moments, thriving within the organized chaos of events, and the people-first nature of the hospitality industry.

Since starting her Four Seasons career in 2016 as a Pool Intern at Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore, Mackenzie’s journey has taken her across the country with roles in Seattle, Washington DC, and now, San Francisco as the Director of Rooms of the 155-room Michelin-awarded two keys hotel in the heart of the city.

A graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Business, Mackenzie embodies a blend of strategic leadership, creativity and hands-on service excellence. After five and a half years in Washington DC, her decision to join Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero was fueled by an inspiring conversation with General Manager Jason de Vries, and a leap of faith to explore a new city alongside her partner, Chase.

Now as Director of Rooms, Mackenzie’s focus is clear: to make every guest fall in love with San Francisco, just as she did. Whether it’s through the jaw-dropping city views from the guest rooms or the genuine warmth of the Embarcadero team, she’s passionate about creating stays that feel personal and unforgettable. It’s not uncommon for her to create magic for the guests - from surprising a die-hard baseball fan with a room decked out in San Francisco Giants memorabilia to celebrating a marathon runner’s achievement by writing their finish time on their window with a Golden Gate Bridge backdrop, Mackenzie finds joy in the small, meaningful touches that turn a stay into a memory. Just as important to her is nurturing a team environment where her colleagues feel inspired, valued, and excited to come to work each day.

Outside of work, Mackenzie loves discovering San Francisco’s hidden gems, whether it’s stumbling upon a charming new coffee shop, browsing local boutiques, or finding a quiet park bench to read at one of San Francisco’s many parks such as Almo Square or the Presidio. As an avid foodie, she’s always on the hunt for her next favourite bite, with spots like Burma Superstar, Maison Nico, The Progress, Lolo, and Verjus topping her ever-growing list.

True to her adventurous spirit and always up for a new experience, it’s no surprise that Mackenzie’s personal motto is, why not, let’s do it. Whether she’s taking on a new challenge at work, crafting unforgettable guest moments, or setting out on her next weekend adventure, Mackenzie brings that same energy and wholehearted commitment to everything she does, always striving to make a difference for her team, her guests, and her community.
