From Sun to Stars: Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai Unveils Sol & Sao Bar, a New Beachside Sanctuary
Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai introduces Sol & Sao Bar, a vibrant day-to-night bar that connects travellers to the rhythms and flavours of life on the Vietnamese coast. A dynamic addition to the Resort’s versatile culinary offerings, the bar takes its name from the Latin word for sun (sol) and the Vietnamese word for star (sao).
Guests will find a warm, all-day welcome at Sol & Sao Bar. From morning to afternoon, it’s a laidback cafe serving Vietnamese coffee, homemade gelato and tropical drinks. Come evening, it transforms into a Spanish-inspired lounge, beckoning guests to unwind with a crafted sherry cocktail in hand and sample tapas with a local touch.
Where Sun and Stars Meet
Night and day. Sky and sea. Light and dark. Celebrating both contrast and connection, Sol & Sao Bar reflects an intriguing sense of balance, evident across its design as well as its menu offerings. Mirroring the sky above, the bar evolves effortlessly from AM to PM. Bright mornings begin with freshly cracked coconuts and coffee, framed by gleaming views of the shore. As the sun climbs higher, artisanal gelato and cool sea breezes provide a welcome reprieve, giving way to the lively hum of golden hour, marked by cocktails and small plates. Come nightfall, lanterns flicker to life under the twinkling stars, casting a glow over nightcaps and conversations – the transition from Sol to Sao is complete.
General Manager Marcel Oostenbrink comments, “Sol & Sao Bar is more than a new venue—it’s a tribute to the breathtaking coastal landscapes of Vietnam. Our menu gracefully blends bold local flavours with the elegance of Spanish culinary techniques, inviting guests on a sensory journey from sunrise to sunset. Thoughtfully designed as a sanctuary by the sea, Sol & São is where the warmth of the sun meets the magic of the stars.”
Sherry Celebrations
At the heart of the bar’s beverage concept lies an exceptional sherry collection, the largest in the country, featuring more than 40 rare and aged varieties sourced from Spanish bodegas. Honouring the depth and diversity of this fortified wine, the menu ranges across various styles of sherry – from crisp Fino to complex Amontillado to sweet Pedro Ximénez. Tasting flights welcome connoisseurs to sample hard-to-find pours, paired with artisanal cheeses. Sol & Sao Bar also offers an impressive curation of rums, including English, Spanish and French selections.
Coffee to Cocktail
Using sustainable beans from the central highlands, Four Seasons baristas prepare classic Vietnamese pour-over coffee with the Modbar machine, known for its incredible precision. Guests can also get their caffeine fix via other signature options: cold brew laced with sparkling lemonade, coconut coffee with condensed milk, and an iconic sherry coffee that combines the two core inspirations of Sol & Sao Bar.
Behind the bar, the mixology team makes imaginative use of homegrown ingredients such as coconut, hibiscus, jackfruit, pineapple, pandan and more. Guided by the sun’s journey across the sky, the cocktail list recommends options for before and after sunset, shifting from light, bright concoctions earlier in the day to deeper flavour profiles at night.
Signature drinks include the Sherry Cobbler, a blend of two sherries, maraschino and fruity marmalades, and Tiger Market, featuring fat-washed cognac with prosecco and passionfruit. An excellent zero-proof selection promises to satisfy those who like their cocktails sans alcohol.
All-Day Grazing
Homemade gelato plays a starring role at Sol & Sao Bar, with intricately plated creations transforming the chilled treat into a multi-sensory experience. The Passion Dragon Ball reimagines the staple dragon fruit into an astonishing variety of textures, while the Classic Dame Blanche arrives dressed in chocolate leaf, toasted almond and cacao nibs. Over at the interactive gelato counter, guests can personalise their frozen dessert with locally inspired toppings like fresh fruit, toasted coconut flakes and house-made syrups.
Fusing Spanish inspiration with Vietnamese tradition, the tapas menu features highlights such as the Hoi An Chicken Satay, a stylish spin on a local classic, and the Eco Nam Hai Garden, crafted with seasonal ingredients from the Resort’s own herb and vegetable farm.
Coastal Design
Fostering an intimate connection with the outdoors, the bar’s warm, laidback aesthetic evokes an unmistakeable sense of place. Unwind across alfresco spaces, dotted with lush vegetation and canopied by rustic timber ceilings. The sunken lounge at the sundeck offers uninterrupted views of the coastline, blurring the boundaries between land, sea and sky.
101 Days of Summer: Afternoon Tea and Sundowner
From June 1 to September 9, 2025, Sol & Sao Bar presents 101 Days of Summer, a Four Seasons celebration of local flavours and creative freedom. Guests can look forward to A Tropical Orchard by the Sea, an exclusive afternoon tea capturing the essence of summer in Hoi An. Curated by Assistant Pastry Chef Vo Dat, the menu includes standouts such as lobster terrine, gianduja chocolate beignets and coconut coffee. Sunset brings its own special indulgence: the Pistachio Affogato, a velvety scoop of pistachio gelato drenched in warm espresso.
