Steadfire General Manager Luis Martinez is originally from Yanga, Veracruz, a small town in Mexico with an incredibly rich history. The town is known as the first liberated settlement in the Americas after an uprising by African leader Gaspar Yanga, who fought for freedom of the enslaved people brought to Mexico.

“Beyond its powerful legacy, Yanga is a place full of heart,” says Martinez. “It’s surrounded by lush green landscapes, sugarcane fields, and warm, welcoming people who celebrate life through food, music, and tradition. Growing up there gave me a deep appreciation for culture, history, and the importance of community—values I carry with me every day in my work in hospitality.”

Continues Martinez, “Yanga taught me that every person has a story worth honouring, and that’s exactly what I strive to do with every guest I meet.”

Martinez’s hospitality journey started when he was 15 years old. His aunt opened a restaurant in his hometown and asked Martinez to help after school. The restaurant started from scratch, from building the space and crafting the concept to bringing it all to life.

“I still remember the excitement of opening day like it was yesterday,” says Martinez. “I did it all, serving, cooking, making drinks and I loved every second of it. That early experience sparked something in me. Later, when it came time to choose a career, hospitality felt like home. There’s something incredibly noble and fulfilling about creating moments for others that they’ll never forget. That’s the magic that keeps me passionate about this industry.”

In Jackson Hole, Martinez is excited to guide the team at Steadfire modern chophouse.

“I couldn’t resist the opportunity to bring a brand-new restaurant like Steadfire to life. It instantly reminded me of my first opening back home. The energy, the creativity, and the chance to be part of something special from the ground up, those moments are rare and incredibly rewarding,” he says. “Plus, there’s nothing quite like doing it with Four Seasons, in a place as stunning and iconic as Jackson Hole.”

In his leisure time, Martinez enjoys experiencing the American West in all its glory—from the wildlife and landscapes to the vibrant local food scene. According to Martinez, living so close to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks “feels surreal.” He is excited to explore, hike, taste, and fully immerse himself in everything the diverse region has to offer.
