Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui Celebrates Negroni Week at CoCoRum and KOH Bar
First concocted in the early 1920s in France and popularized as an American-styled gin cocktail with rich Italian roots, the quintessential Negroni has existed in some form or another for more than a century. As this much-loved cocktail courses through its centennial decade, the mixology world celebrates its place in the cocktail pantheon with another annual Negroni Week in September 2024.
And, while bartenders around the globe will be pulling out all the stops to demonstrate their creative skills, Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui Bar Manager Thom Geerts looks to adds a definitive Thai twist or two to the classic recipe this year. Always looking to mix a little magic in a glass, this jovial Dutchman’s latest range of Negroni-inspired cocktails is something to look forward to this September. “On a tropical island such as Koh Samui, it isn’t hard to find inspiration and fascinating new flavours to add to the glass,” grins Thom.
Kick-starting on September 16th and on until the 22nd, Thom’s special Negroni menu will be available all day at the poolside CoCoRum, where guests can unwind in a relaxed beachfront atmosphere. In the evenings, KOH Bar will light up with the flavours of this tropical infused Negroni menu, to complement the stunning ocean views.
The list of cocktails resonates with the Resort’s seaside ambience, as bold interpretations of the Negroni such as the Caliente blend mango-infused tequila and chili tincture, adding serious spunk to the Campari and vermouth original.
A Toast to Sustainability
“Building on our larger theme of sustainability across the Four Seasons brand, we have chosen a list of locally-grown fruits to infuse our spirits with,” says Thom. The Resort has partnered with the Thai agro-ecology initiative Slow Food to help improve its relationship with the local community and the environment. “Encouraging efforts such as fair-food systems and a reliance on ethically-sourced ingredients tie in with the environmental stewardship we represent as a global brand with strong local engagement,” he explains.
A Taste of the Tropics
Representing the true flavour of Koh Samui, Thom's rousing list of signatures Negroni derivatives includes the classic original, which retains its place at the head of the table. Special creations such as the Tropical Negroni with coconut-washed gin also feature prominently.
In addition to the Thai-inspired Negronis, guests will also be able to sample the Milano Marina - a recipe sent in from Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur featuring Amaro Montenegro, olive brine and grapefruit squeeze, as well as a Spiced and Smoke sent in from Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, with its mix of tequila, mezcal, and nutmeg-infused Campari.
“CoCoRum and KOH Bar are where all the action will be come Negroni week, and our Asian twists are really going to resonate with the island vibe, while also tying in with a meaningful cause that resonates beyond the glass,” smiles Thom.
