Wine Spectator Announces Best of Award of Excellence for Osteria Mozza Lanai
Osteria Mozza Lanai at Four Seasons Resort Lanai has been recognized with a Best of Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator in their 2025 Restaurant Awards, which showcase restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.
The Restaurant Awards recognize thoughtfully chosen wine lists that offer quality and diversity, as well as compatibility with the restaurant’s style and menu. These wine lists display excellent breadth across multiple winegrowing regions and/or significant vertical depth of top producers, along with superior presentation. Typically offering 350 or more selections, Best of Award of Excellence restaurants are destinations for serious wine lovers, showing a deep commitment to wine, both in the cellar and through their service team. Whether compact or extensive, focused or diverse, these lists deliver sufficient choice to satisfy discerning wine lovers. An expert panel of judges evaluated wine programs at hundreds of restaurants, including Osteria Mozza Lanai, based on criteria such as menu pairings, location and quality of producers, size of wine list, price point and overall service.
The restaurant is a partnership with Nancy Silverton, known for Los Angeles eateries such as Michelin-starred Osteria Mozza, Pizzeria Mozza and chi SPACCA. The dinner menu celebrates traditional Italian cuisine with fresh and seasonal island ingredients. Salads feature fresh lettuces from nearby Sensei Farms while pasta is made with local eggs, producing a uniquely rich fresh pasta dough.
The menu offers an extensive wine list, featuring almost 400 selections by the bottle with an emphasis on wines from Italy, France, and California. Andrea Peterson, General Manager at Osteria Mozza Lanai, is a certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers.
Featured wines include the prestigious merlot Masseto, often called the “Petrus of Italy”. From Sicily, guests can enjoy Tenuta delle Terre Nere, the only estate owned and produced single vineyard white on the three slopes of the Etna appellation, or La Spinetta Starderi vertical 06, 07, 08, Gallina and Valeirano expressions. Other revered Barbarescos include Marchesi di Gresy "Camp Gros" and "Gaiun". Big, bold showstopper Barolos such as Vietti's Ravera and Brunat, and Giuseppe Quintarelli Alzero, a Veneto Rosso, round out Peterson’s favourites.
The list also highlights renowned Left and Right Bordeaux - Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Château Pétrus, and Château Margaux - to name a few, alongside Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and Grands Echézeaux from arguably the greatest vineyards in Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanée Conti.
Nestled in between, guests can discover unique, obscure varietals meant to pair perfectly with dishes on the menu, such as varietals like Aglianico, Susumaniello, Nerello Mascalese, Ribolla Gialla, Fiano and Greco di Tufo.
A redesign set to debut this fall will incorporate the full expression of Mozza into Four Seasons Resort at Lanai, including the addition of a wood-fire pizza oven and a white Carrara marble Mozzarella Bar, a legendary spot at Osteria Mozza where guests can cozy up and watch the culinary team prepare their food. Also new is a private dining and wine room for intimate groups.
