Four Seasons Resorts Lanai Introduces Complimentary Excursions to the Lanai Cat Sanctuary
Guests at Four Seasons Resort Lanai or Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort have a new way to visit the Lanai Cat Sanctuary with the introduction of complimentary weekly tours.
The Lanai Cat Sanctuary is home to more than 700 rescued cats and one of the island's most cherished nonprofit organizations. Now, guests can enjoy a 90-minute visit with the “Lanai Lions”, three times a week.
Located on a four-acre (1.6-hectare), fully enclosed outdoor sanctuary, the Lanai Cat Sanctuary provides lifelong care for cats rescued from across the island. Lanai is the only island in Hawaiʻi with an island-wide agreement allowing feral cats to be relocated to a sanctuary rather than euthanized — a model that has made the organization a global example of compassionate, conservation-minded animal welfare. The team built medical services which ensure every cat has an individualized care plan.
During their visit, guests can walk among the cats, learn about the Sanctuary's mission from its staff and volunteers, and discover how the organization safeguards Hawaiʻi's vulnerable native bird populations, including Uau (Hawaiian Petrel), Alae Keokeo (Hawaiian Coot) and Uau Kanai (Wedge-tailed Shearwater).
For the cats, guests aren’t just observers — they’re enrichment. When visitors hand out treats, offer ear scratches, or simply sit quietly with a shy cat, they’re helping that cat warm up to human interaction. Over time, this exposure transforms previously unadoptable cats into potential companion animals, ready for homes of their own.
Visitors are welcome every day and for those not traveling to Lanai, animal lovers can participate in “Adopt in Place” or “Rent a Piece of Purradise” programs to help fund and support the organization and its mission. The Lanai Cat Sanctuary is open 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, 365 days a year and there is no admission fee to visit.
