CURA Restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon Brings Its Concept to Life Through a Curation of Contemporary Art in Dialogue with Chef Rodolfo Lavrador's Menu
In CURADORISMO, now premiering at CURA and on display until the end of the year, Chef Rodolfo Lavrador invites ceramicist Maria Ana Vasco Costa and textile artist Vanessa Barragão into a dialogue between gastronomy and art, where the works created are born from a sensorial and immersive interpretation of the menu
CURA restaurant, at the heart of Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon and with a Michelin star since 2021, opens a new chapter in its identity: the gastronomic experience expands into a territory of continuous artistic curation, where the kitchen ceases to be an end in itself and becomes, instead, a point of departure.
Set within one of the city's most iconic addresses, Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon is a veritable museum. Opened in 1959 with one of the largest privately owned collections of Portuguese modern art in the country — featuring works by Almada Negreiros, Carlos Botelho, Sarah Afonso, Querubim Lapa, and Lagoa Henriques, among others — the Hotel has always been a living museum where art and hospitality are inseparable. It is within this legacy that CURA finds its place, projecting itself now into the field of contemporary creation. With CURADORISMO, Chef Rodolfo Lavrador invites new artists to continue writing this story, in a dialogue between gastronomy, ceramics, and textile that honours the same visionary spirit that has characterised the Hotel from the very beginning.
CURADORISMO marks the beginning of a structured project that gives explicit, tangible form to the very concept of the restaurant — CURA as an exercise in selection, sensibility, and the construction of meaning. It is a logic of curation that has always existed on the plate, and which now extends into the space through works created exclusively to accompany and interpret the menu.
"I have a particular interest in art and had already been following the work of these artists for some time. I wanted the menu to draw inspiration from other forms of expression and create a dynamic with people who share a similar energy to mine — a real sense of alignment," explains Chef Rodolfo Lavrador.
For this first edition, CURA invites two contemporary artists — Maria Ana Vasco Costa and Vanessa Barragão — to develop original pieces in direct dialogue with CURA’s tasting menu. More than an illustrative exercise, this is a conceptual extension of the kitchen: a parallel, sensorial, and material reading of the gastronomic experience.
The project starts with the work of Maria Ana Vasco Costa, now on display until September 2026. From that point, CURA welcomes artist Vanessa Barragão, ensuring a curatorial continuity that reinforces the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of CURADORISMO.
CURADORISMO is, above all, a project in motion. Over time, it will extend the dialogue to other forms of art, engaging with different artists and creative disciplines, expanding the restaurant beyond the table and positioning it as a meeting point between thought, matter, and expression. Inverting the usual process, in CURADORISMO it is art that is born from the kitchen. Each artist departs from the narrative, rhythms, flavours, and identity of the menu to build a body of work of their own — translating the culinary experience into visual and tactile matter.
