Who wouldn’t love living close to the sea? “There’s magic in it,” says Terry Moutou, who is pursuing his dream career at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita. Be it the guests, service providers or colleagues, the connections made at the sea shore are driving factors that help this Concierge Manager have a vision to provide the best insights to make their experience unforgettable. He is quick to quote Paulo Coelho, “It’s mainly living close to the sea, wake up early in the morning, spend some time at the beach, come back home to play with kids, have a nice afternoon nap, and when evening comes, join some buddies for a drink, play the guitar, sing and dance throughout the night!”
Terry loves creating a network of people, sharing knowledge, helping them and connecting those dots to the concierge desk. This triggered the unending desire to aspire for a goal in this stream. “This company creates an exceptional environment not just for its employees, but a perfect platform for the guests too so that we can ensure to make life comfortable offering brand promises like no other,” he recounts.
Having started his career as a doorman at The Residence Hotel, Terry has had a long career in the hospitality industry. A stint at One & Only Le Saint Geran was a stepping stone to Four Seasons, where he moved up the ladder steadily from a Receptionist to a Concierge Manager. Born and raised in Mauritius, it was natural for Terry to combine his experience of the island and his inherent talent to discover the right needs of the customer to provide insights that can make them discover the finest facets of the land and sea.
And how did he hone this skill? “I did nothing,” he laughs. “I noticed that when you find yourself on an island, the waves and the sand calm people down. They instantly become friendly, caring, easy-going and very welcoming. These traits are an advantage for us in the hospitality industry.” When visitors are made to feel at home, they will retain the desire to keep coming back, says Terry, adding that is the secret behind his team’s success.
For Terry, inspiration lies in the sound of the ocean. “Oh! That gives life to mankind,” he asserts. A jog at the sugarcane fields during sunrise, time with his young daughter and a learning mindset are all that Terry cares about. “With these, I believe all goals are achievable and nothing is impossible. My next challenge is to join the concierge Clefs d’Or family!”
