A Living Canvas: Where Design Meets Nature at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita
What if a place didn’t simply surround you, but unfolded around you like a living canvas shaped by nature itself?
At Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, a recent, extensive, resort-wide renovation spanning seven months has redefined the guest experience, transforming villas and residences, dining venues, and the Oseyan Spa. Guided by a clear vision to deepen the connection between architecture and landscape, the renewed interiors bring the essence of Mauritius into every space, creating a seamless dialogue between indoors and outdoors.
The interiors of the villas, residences, and spa were designed by the renowned London-based studio 1508 London, while dining venues and bars were redesigned by Elastic Architects. Together, they embraced a shared philosophy: not to compete with the island’s natural beauty, but to reflect and enhance it.
Inspired by Mauritius’ rich textures, colours, and organic forms, each space has been carefully curated to evoke a true sense of place. Walls are enriched with subtle handcrafted finishes reminiscent of volcanic rock and coral stone, while bespoke furniture draws from the fluid silhouettes of driftwood, coastal vegetation, and flowing water, resulting in soft, sculptural forms that feel naturally rooted in the environment. Natural materials such as timber, volcanic stone, and woven fibres introduce warmth and authenticity, while generous openings frame the lagoon, gardens, and sky as ever-evolving works of art.
This connection to nature extends into every detail. Textiles have been selected for their tactile richness, inspired by rippling sand, palm fronds, and ocean currents. A palette of mineral neutrals, lagoon blues, and lush botanical greens mirrors the surrounding landscape, while subtle motifs echo the island’s flora and coastline. From in-room accessories to printed materials, each element contributes to a cohesive and immersive design language throughout the resort.
As daylight shifts across the island, the spaces transform with it. Morning light filters through natural materials, casting soft patterns and shadows, while evenings bring warmth and intimacy, reflecting the calm rhythm of the lagoon beyond. The result is a living canvas that evolves throughout the day and invites guests to experience Mauritius through every texture and detail.
In this renewed sanctuary, nature is not simply a backdrop, but an integral part of the experience that shapes a deeper connection to the island and its enduring beauty.
