When it came to finding a chef to lead Naviva’s culinary team, Chef Sofía Mojica was the obvious choice according to Resort Manager Ronny Fernandez. “Her past experience with Four Seasons combined with her contagious smile and unique personality made her a natural fit,” says Ronny.

At Copal Kitchen, the heart of Naviva, Chef Sofía’s passion shines through as she welcomes guests to an open-air kitchen and living room as if it were her own home. The intimate setting at Copal allows guests to have a private dining experience akin to a chef’s table every night. Guests can watch Chef Sofía in her element as she creates a personalized menu from scratch or join her in the kitchen to make ceviche with the fresh catch of the day, caught from local fishermen, and herbs from the Chef’s Garden.

Growing up in a large family in El Salvador, the kitchen was the heart of the home, where her loved ones gathered together to prepare food and connect over shared meals. At Copal Kitchen, Sofía nurtures that same inviting spirit. At any moment, guests will pop into the kitchen to say hello to her and the culinary team as they prepare a meal, test out a new recipe or share highlights of their day.

After attending university, Sofía embarked on her cooking career in Buenos Aires, Argentina before moving to Peru, where her fondness for natural Latin flavours grew. Her first role with Four Seasons came in 2016 when she joined the culinary team at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles in Beverly Hills, where many of her diners were among the celebrity set and entertainment elite. Following her time in the City of Angels, Sofía joined Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita as a Junior Sous Chef, where she gained invaluable resort experience and grew into the role of Sous Chef in 2019.

“For me, cooking is a labour of love; a passion nurtured by my large family in El Salvador who always encouraged me to pursue my dreams by allowing me to experiment in the kitchen and feed them new recipes. With no set menus, Naviva is an open canvas for me to craft innovative dishes and recipes incorporating local ingredients with my guests alongside me.”

Outside of the kitchen, Chef Sofía enjoys belting out karaoke tunes, attending stand-up comedy shows, grooving on the dance floor, and traveling to the US to visit her nephew, Dario.
