Boston: Building Home and Craft

Wilmar Betancur, one of One Dalton's true craftsmen, is a patient and thorough painter who has built his skills through a well-rounded career in food and beverage and craftsmanship. 

Originally from Colombia, Wilmar visited the United States in 1997. A decade later, in 2007, he made Boston his permanent home, joining his father and brother who had settled in the city. His brother, Wilson Betancur, also works at Four Seasons One Dalton, where both have built their careers in hospitality, contributing to the hotel's success from different roles.

In the years since making Boston home, the city has become more than just a home base; Boston has shaped Wilmar in ways that go beyond geography. What Wilmar values most is the city's pace and rhythm, a calm and steady energy that suits him. "I like the city of Boston. It's a calm city and perfect for me," he says. His New England home has also shaped how Wilmar approaches his work. "Boston taught me responsibility and work ethic," he reflects. 

The Path to One Dalton

Wilmar's professional journey in food and beverage began in the restaurant scene, where he worked his way from prep cook to line cook before moving to the front of house as a busser, barback, and eventually bartender. 

During a job search in 2019, Wilmar and his brother Wilson saw an opportunity to apply for roles at Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton. Wilmar was determined to work for "the best brand," and he knew Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts represented that standard. "I knew that I wanted to work for the best, so I applied," Wilmar says.

What surprised him most upon joining the One Dalton team was the welcoming nature of his coworkers. "Coworkers and managers all make me feel welcome," he says. "At work, I see different cultures and nationalities, all different backgrounds, but we are all welcome at Four Seasons One Dalton."

From Service to Craft

Since opening day, Wilmar's journey at Four Seasons One Dalton has been exceptionally dynamic. With his food and beverage experience, Wilmar began at the hotel's former breakfast restaurant as a supporting team member and one of its first servers. Along the way, he supported other food and beverage outlets across the hotel as needed, broadening his experience beyond his primary roles. His path then led him to In-Room Dining as an attendant before transitioning from food and beverage into Maintenance and Engineering as a Painter, the role he holds today. This breadth of experience makes Wilmar a multidimensional talent at Four Seasons One Dalton. His range of experience allows him to bring a unique perspective to every role he takes on and a deep understanding of how each department contributes to the guest experience. 

What draws Wilmar to his current role is the precision and skill it demands. "I really like working with my hands," he says. He initially learned basic painting skills at home, helping his family with minor painting projects. At One Dalton, those skills evolved as he sharpened his technique and mastered his craft. Now, every brushstroke and every detail reflect the same dedication he's brought to every role.

Working with Purpose: Where Every Detail Matters

Wilmar credits his success to fulfilling work that he truly enjoys in an environment that empowers him. "When you are happy where you work, you are more inspired to keep working and do your very best," Wilmar says. "I know that people say that there is nothing perfect in life, but here at One Dalton, we work for perfection," says Wilmar.

What encourages Wilmar most at One Dalton is the consideration of the guest experience. Though most might think about how guests feel upon entry and during their stay, Wilmar is particularly interested in observing how guests feel when they depart. When Wilmar sees a guest is content with their stay, it affirms the collective effort of the Four Seasons One Dalton team, and he feels and knows that the dedication he commits daily is truly what makes it all worthwhile. 

Looking ahead, Wilmar is excited to continue growing within the company. When asked what Four Seasons One Dalton means to him, Wilmar describes it as "a place where every detail matters to create great memories for our guests."
