Summer marks the arrival of Japanese melons, famed for their unique sweetness and refreshing character. Paying homage to the country’s most prized summer fruit, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi presents the limited-edition Japanese Melon Afternoon Tea, available until June 30, 2023.

Guests are invited into the elegant sunlit ambiance of THE LOUNGE to discover an array of melon-infused sweets and savouries, served against sky-high views of the lush Imperial Palace Gardens.

The team at Four Seasons sources the finest of fresh Japanese melons to craft an array of delicate delights. Each creation reflects the spirit of summertime in Tokyo, expressing exquisite flavours in a palette of summer pastels.

A Summer Favourite

Through May and June, succulent melons are harvested in greenhouses and farms across Japan. These fruits are in season for only a few short months, making them all the more beloved.

“Red melons are rich and intensely sweet with a mellow aroma, while green melons have a bright, refreshing taste. Our Afternoon Tea brings together the sublime flavours of both varieties,” says Executive Chef Satoru Hirano.

Melon Magic in Every Bite

The star of the sweets selection is the Melon and Citrus Opera with Orange Passion Cream. Composed with red melon cream, almond sponge and orange jelly, this artful confection blends sweet and sour notes in perfect harmony. Wrapped in a melon-inspired pattern, the miniature opera cake is decorated with flower petals and drops of orange passion cream and white chocolate.

Another highlight is the Coconut Mousse with Melon Jelly, in which the tender fruit jelly is beautifully complemented by a crisp sablé base.

On the savoury side, find an innovative selection that combines the freshness of summer produce with mature flavours such as maple cream, smoked salmon and foie gras. Perhaps the most eye-catching item is the Smoked Salmon Rilette with Spinach Purée, a playful tribute to Japan’s love affair with melon soda. The vivid appeal of the popular beverage is mirrored through elements such as the green melon jelly, white sour cream and red cherries.

Guests can also sample original creations such as the Foie Gras Confit with Maple Cream & Melon Tarlet and the Melon Gazpacho with Tomato Mousse.
