Santa Fe is well-known as a healing destination, drawing artists, healers and those seeking transformation with its expansive mountain views, plentiful sunshine and cleansing air. Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe Spa Director Tina Hay is a believer in the mysticism of the destination, where a day in the office is spent overseeing the 10,000-square-foot (930 square metre) Spa, situated on a spiritual vortex and offering treatments inspired by the traditions and botanicals of northern New Mexico.

Santa Fe is truly an enchanting and magical place,” says Hay. “I often say before joining the team I never used words like magical and enchanting, but once you have experienced this beautiful place firsthand, there really is no other way to describe it.”

Hay personally experienced the healing energy to Santa Fe when she set out on a 30-day taskforce appointment several years ago. She initially was not planning to relocate from Four Seasons Hotel Houston, where she worked at the time as Spa Director. Her initial task force meant to be 30 days turned into more than three years later, where she continues to develop roots at both the property and in the community.

Hay originally studied business management at the University of Houston, but was undecided about her next steps after graduating. She took a job at Insitiut Clarins at Saks Fifth Avenue as a Spa Coordinator and quickly realized that the spa and wellness industry was where she wanted to build her career. She was soon promoted to the role of spa manager, honing her skills in the spa industry and deepening her understanding of wellness.

“I loved seeing the positive impact on our guests after time spent rejuvenating and relaxing,” says Hay. “I also was able to curate spa events, which continues to be one of my biggest passions.”

Her next steps took her to Four Seasons Hotel Houston, where she spent more than a decade developing her career in both hospitality and wellness. Key focus areas for Hay were enhancing the guest experience, with innovative new therapies and menu enhancements, as well as creating programming for both locals and guests to connect to the broader wellness community.

In Santa Fe, Hay is a big believer in giving guests permission to relax. She encourages spa visitors to take time to truly unplug, indulging in one of the tranquil spa courtyards with a hot soaking tub, relaxing in the steam room or dry sauna, and unwinding in the Warming Room with a cup of local tea and a roaring fireplace.

In her personal time, Hay loves to find her Zen with visiting one of the many spa and wellness centres in the city, taking a hike, going for a run, or indulging her foodie passion by cooking or checking out new restaurants. She also is keen on listening to her body, and believes sometimes what is most needed is a day of rest and binge-watching her favourite TV shows.

Hay also is interested in the emerging integration of aspects of wellbeing, including modern technology and innovative new ways of practicing wellness.

“The industry was built on the healing power of touch, and has evolved into incorporating all aspects from touch therapy to technology-assisted facials, nutritional wellness and transformative sound therapy.”
