A dedicated marine biologist with a rich background in island conservation, Nasreen Khan has spent over a decade safeguarding some of the world’s most delicate ecosystems. Her extensive experience across diverse and challenging environments, from the remote Sub-Antarctic to the lush islands of Seychelles, brings a deep commitment to the protection and restoration of marine and terrestrial habitats.
"Being able to protect and restore the unique ecosystems of Desroches Island is both a privilege and a responsibility that I embrace with my whole heart. Every day offers an opportunity to witness the resilience of nature, and I’m passionate about sharing these experiences with our guests."
Nasreen’s expertise in both the scientific and operational aspects of conservation ensures that the natural beauty of Desroches Island is preserved for generations to come.
"I believe that every species, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, plays a vital role in the complex web of life that sustains our planet. My work is driven by the conviction that by protecting these ecosystems, we are protecting our own future. Being part of the team at Four Seasons allows me to combine luxury hospitality with a profound respect for nature, offering guests not just an escape, but an opportunity to connect deeply with the world around them."
Nasreen’s journey began in South Africa, where she developed a passion for marine life from a young age. Her early career included hands-on roles as a marine biology technician and aquarist, where she honed her skills in coral propagation, water quality monitoring, and the intricate care required for marine ecosystems.
In 2016, Nasreen embarked on an extraordinary adventure, conducting research on orcas, seals, and seabirds in the Sub-Antarctic region, including the rigorous fieldwork required to study large marine mammals in the challenging environment of Marion Island. Her work involved satellite tagging, biometrics, and species identification through photographic techniques, emphasizing her adaptability and dedication to conservation in extreme conditions.
Her expertise expanded further when she joined the Seychelles Islands Foundation, where she coordinated research efforts on UNESCO World Heritage sites like Aldabra Atoll and the Vallée de Mai. Managing large teams and supporting international research collaborations, Nasreen played a key role in preserving these iconic ecosystems.
Nasreen's role as a conservation officer and island manager with the Island Conservation Society saw her managing teams, developing protocols, and conducting critical biodiversity assessments across several islands. Her comprehensive understanding of island ecosystems and biosecurity measures has made her an invaluable asset in preserving Seychelles’ unique flora and fauna.
"It’s incredibly rewarding to work in such pristine environments and to witness the tangible results of conservation efforts. Whether it’s a newly hatched turtle making its way to the ocean or the return of a critically endangered bird species, these moments reinforce the importance of what we do."
In her current role at Four Seasons Resort Desroches Island, Nasreen leads conservation initiatives, blending luxury and environmental stewardship. Her mission is to inspire guests to appreciate and protect the natural world, creating an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impact on both visitors and the island’s ecosystem. With her profound knowledge of the land and sea life of the Seychelles, she can introduce guests to lesser known species, such as her favourite, the majestic Frigatebird, which she calls the pirates of land and sea.
Outside of her professional life, Nasreen is an enthusiastic advocate for environmental education and community engagement. She has presented at numerous conferences, sharing her insights and passion for conservation with global audiences. Nasreen is also an avid diver and underwater photographer, capturing the vibrant life beneath the waves and using her imagery to inspire others to protect the oceans.
"When we can cultivate meaningful bonds between people and the natural world, conservation comes naturally. I hope to inspire others to see the beauty in every corner of our planet and to take action to preserve it for future generations."
Nasreen Khan’s dedication to conservation, combined with her extensive experience, makes her a vital part of the team at Four Seasons Resort Desroches Island, where she continues to protect and nurture one of the world’s most beautiful and fragile environments.
