For the first time ever, the Terry Fox Run, an international event honouring Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope, is coming to Silicon Valley.

On September 17, 2023, Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley invites locals and Hotel guests to gather at the Baylands Nature Preserve for a 5K run/walk event. This is not just any event, but a collective stride towards a future without the fear of cancer. The Hotel will be raising funds for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), a world-leading institution in groundbreaking cancer research and treatment.

Registration starts at 9:30 am at the meeting point, the Baylands Athletic Center - 1900 Geng Rd, Palo Alto, California, 94303.

The 5K run/walk starts promptly at 10:00 am. Projected end time is expected to be 2:00 pm, giving participants plenty of time to run, walk, cheer, and engage in this community event.

By participating, individual runners shall display solidarity with all those whose lives has been touched by cancer. They would be running in memory of Terry Fox, who, despite having his leg amputated due to cancer, set out on an inspiring cross-Canada run in 1980 to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
All steps participants take, every dollar they donate, brings the next breakthrough in cancer research closer. This is a chance to make history, and when that breakthrough is announced, everyone can be proud to say that they had a part in it.

“Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley is pleased to bring this event to Palo Alto, Silicon Valley. A Terry Fox Run is a Canadian tradition since 1981 and we are pleased to be the first hotel in Northern California to raise awareness for the mission and cause with our guests and locals in the area. About The Terry Fox Foundation

Terry Fox, a 22-year-old athlete who lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, made headlines in 1980 when he ran almost a marathon a day, 3,339 miles (5,374 kilometres) over 143 days, across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Terry had to stop his run when his cancer spread, and he sadly died soon afterwards.  He’s now considered a Canadian hero and every year since 1981 Terry Fox Runs are held around the world in his honour.

The Terry Fox Foundation was founded with a dual mandate to maintain Terry’s vision and principles while raising funds for cancer research. The Foundation relies on a volunteer corps 20,000 strong to lead the charge on the ground organizing more than 9,500 Terry Fox fundraising events every year. With more than USD 640 million raised in Terry Fox’s name, and 1,300 innovative research projects funded, it is clear that Canadians and people around the world of all ages, backgrounds and abilities are determined to take Terry’s Marathon of Hope across the finish line.
