Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo Debuts Sustainable Farm, Rancho Lola
The Resort’s low-impact sustainable farm experience connects guests to Mexico’s culinary and agricultural traditions
Situated within a 3,000 acre (1,200 hectare) private eco-reserve along Mexico’s Costalegre (“Happy Coast”), the award-winning Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo introduces Rancho Lola, a low-impact sustainable farm that is an integral piece of the Resort’s culinary and ecological vision. The farm and its experiential offerings provide guests with an immersive connection to the origins of indigenous ingredients and the vibrant traditions of Mexico - while also furthering the Resort’s commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural preservation.
Cultivated by a curated team of ranchers, chefs, farmers and botanists, Rancho Lola provides unforgettable farm-to-table experiences and hands-on activities designed to connect guests with the land and its bounty. Rancho Lola also serves as the heart of the Resort’s culinary program, offering exploration into the diverse and seasonal produce cultivated on-site. Guests can experience Rancho Lola in multiple ways, from planting their own ingredients to enjoying curated chef’s table experiences for breakfast and lunch. Helmed by Resort Manager Herve Fucho, previously an executive chef for Four Seasons hotels at a multi-Michelin-starred property, his professional journey has been defined by a deep passion for culinary exploration and providing exceptional guest experiences.
“We are incredibly proud of the opening of Rancho Lola at Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo - a testament to our deep respect for the land that surrounds us and commitment to sustainability,” says Herve Fucho, Resort Manager of Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo. “By embracing low-impact farming practices, we’re able to offer guests an authentic connection to the natural surroundings while celebrating the future of Tamarindo’s agricultural heritage. This is a milestone that brings us closer to our goal of creating meaningful experiences that celebrate the land, and its impact on our community.”
A quick golf cart ride away from the Resort, guests of all ages can engage in a wide variety of immersive experiences at Rancho Lola, including:
- Tree Planting for Conservation: Support the Tamarindo International School’s (TAMIS) environmental awareness program by planting a tree tagged with your name, contributing to the regeneration of the land and conservation efforts led by the Resort’s on-site team of biologists. TAMIS serves as an educational haven for the children of Tamarindo employees and the surrounding town of Manzanillo, fostering critical thinking, literacy and numeracy skills alongside nature preservation education.
- Traditional Mexican Cooking Classes: Learn to prepare Birria de Chivo Estilo Jalisco, a flavourful Mexican stew made with locally sourced ingredients, and gain insight into the region’s culinary heritage ahead of enjoying a delicious meal.
- Elevated Chef’s Table Experiences: Enjoy a farm-fresh breakfast cooked in an open-air kitchen featuring seasonal produce, handmade tortillas, artisanal Cuyutlán salt, and local coffee, set in the heart of the farm for a true zero-kilometre dining experience.
- Meliponary and Bee Conservation: Discover the fascinating world of Melipona bees, a stingless species native to the Yucatán Peninsula, known for producing nutrient-rich honey. Guests can observe these vital pollinators up close and taste their exceptional honey, which is featured in select dishes and drinks across the Resort.
- Farm and Animal Encounters: Tour the ranch and feed the resident animals including pigs, goats, and chickens that call it home, or collect fresh eggs for breakfast at the open-air communal dining table. Guests may even meet the farm’s beloved dogs - Tequila, Mezcal, Paloma, and Tuxca.
- Xochitlán Greenhouse Exploration: Delve into the beauty of Mexico’s native flora with a visit to the Resort’s vibrant greenhouse and flower nursery, where guests can create succulent arrangements, learn about the region’s diverse plant life and the importance of sustainable horticulture.
