Four Seasons Hotel Toronto Achieves 5 Green Key Eco-Rating
Major sustainability milestones set a new standard for responsible luxury hospitality
Four Seasons Hotel Toronto has earned the prestigious 5 Green Key Eco-Rating from Green Key Global, a recognition of its measurable achievements in sustainability and social responsibility. Guided by the commitment to preserving and regenerating the environment to leave a positive and enduring impact on the local community, this certification reflects years of focused efforts to reduce energy consumption, divert waste, and champion initiatives that benefit both people and the planet.
“Luxury today is defined not only by exceptional service but by the responsibility we carry for our environment and community,” says Patrick Pollak, General Manager, Four Seasons Hotel Toronto. “Our guests expect experiences that are thoughtful and forward-thinking, and that’s why we’ve embraced initiatives such as eliminating single-use plastics, introducing plant-forward menus, and giving back locally. These efforts aren’t just initiatives—they’re part of a vision to ensure that every stay contributes to a more sustainable future.”
Leading the Way in Responsible Luxury
Four Seasons Hotel Toronto has integrated sustainability into every facet of its operations. The hotel’s Smart Buildings Program, launched in 2013, has delivered significant energy and emissions savings, including 28,236,544.49 kWh of electricity and 3,231,012 m³ of natural gas conserved. These efforts have prevented 7,013 tons of CO₂e emissions, equivalent to removing 4,002 passenger vehicles from the road and saving 30,259 barrels of oil.
Complementing these efforts, the hotel operates a comprehensive recycling and waste diversion program saving thousands of trees, conserving millions of gallons of water, and significantly reducing landfill impact.
These initiatives exemplify a holistic approach to sustainability where environmental stewardship and luxury hospitality coexist seamlessly.
Smart Solutions Driving Big Impact
Guests and residents can enjoy thoughtful amenities that harmonize convenience with environmental responsibility. Electric vehicle charging stations and an electric house car provide elegant, low-emission transportation options, while in-room features are designed to minimize waste. Bulk-size toiletries replace single-use items, and VIVREAU Pure Spring Water presented in reusable glass bottles ensures a refined alternative to plastic, underscoring a commitment to sustainability without compromise.
Dining reflects the same ethos, featuring plant-forward menus, responsibly sourced seafood, and honey from the hotel’s own apiary of 80,000 bees. Food waste reduction is driven by Winnow AI technology, and sustainable meeting options include wellness-focused menus.
Building Stronger Communities Through Action
Beyond environmental initiatives, Four Seasons Hotel Toronto champions social impact by supporting charities including Second Harvest, The Common Table, The Scott Mission, The Good Shepherd Ministries and WWF-Canada. Annual traditions include toy drives supporting Yonge Street Mission and the donation of festive turkey feasts every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Colleagues volunteer for causes such as the Terry Fox Run and support organisations including United Way and CANFAR. Additionally, inside the hotel, guests are immersed in Canada’s cultural richness through works by local artists and artisans, celebrating creativity and community.
