“I love observing guests immerse in the simple joys of life and rediscover the child within,” shares Ashok Nair, who has been promoted as Director of Rooms and Residences at Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai. “It’s worth all the effort that goes into curating guest experiences.” His years of experience in Chiang Mai, both pre- and post-pandemic, makes Ashok very knowledgeable in terms of overall operations, which has been a tremendous help in supporting the wider Resort, as business ramped up into a very successful holiday season.

With more than a decade of expertise in creating personalised itineraries, Ashok is a consummate hotelier with a measured and balanced approach to his role. Prior to joining Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai in 2017, Ashok managed a diverse portfolio at the Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces, including the internationally acclaimed Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, India. Beginning his career there in learning and development, and later as palace services manager, Ashok built a commendable reputation, playing a vital role as the Palace was named among the final four of Virtuoso’s "Hotel of the Year" 2014. As someone who is always obliging, even when his multiple spinning plates are about to take a wobble, Ashok’s career traces back to key position in other palace hotels including the Taj Rambagh Palace Hotel, Jaipur and Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur – both illustrious in their own right.

It is his focus on quality and training, though, that has helped create an empowered team at the forefront. With an approachable and nurturing leadership style, Ashok brings his experience in learning and development to his daily function. “The critical aspect, I believe, is to take care of the team with the same genuineness as we expect them to take care of our guests,” he shares.

Enthusiastic and inquisitive, Ashok is always looking to add to the local experiences a guest can have, creating a meaningful relationship with the destination they visit. Inspired by nature as a yoga and meditation practitioner, he believes that the Resort’s countryside setting has something to offer everyone, “A nature lover, a wellness enthusiast, a foodie, or for those seeking retail therapy - Chiang Mai can keep you busy, whether you are travelling solo, on a romantic getaway or a family vacation.” Being able to curate personalised journeys of wellbeing with varying expectations, preferences and sensitivities, is a challenge he loves, “We often hear guests say ‘time stands still’ when they are with us, and it truly does. Wrapped in rice paddies and overlooking the misty peaks of Doi Suthep, the Resort offers experiences that are rooted in tradition and a reflection of the balanced lifestyle that Thai people are known for.”
