Run for Hope: Four Seasons Resort Langkawi Hosts the Island’s Second Terry Fox Run to Raise Funds for Cancer Research

On June 14, 2025, Four Seasons Resort Langkawi welcomes local residents and Resort guests alike to set their alarms early and rally together for a brighter future without the fear of cancer.

The Terry Fox Run, a global event honouring the legacy of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, invites communities around the world to make a collective stride towards health and hope. Proudly hosted by the Four Seasons team, Langkawi’s second Terry Fox Run will kick off at 7:00 am, taking place along a 5-kilometre route that starts and ends at the same spot – Dataran Tanjung Rhu. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to Cancer Research Malaysia.

“It is our privilege to bring back the Terry Fox Run to Langkawi and continue contributing to this inspiring initiative,” says General Manager Ivan Giles. “Each step we take, each bit of support we gather, brings us all closer to a cancer-free future. Our team is proud to carry forward Terry’s legacy of hope and determination.”

As a non-competitive charity event, the Terry Fox Run is open to everyone — no pressure, no official results, just a shared mission of solidarity. Participants can set their own pace as they run, jog or walk to honour those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Look out for familiar faces: several Four Seasons team members will be joining the event.

Those who wish to show their support from the sidelines are welcome to cheer on the participants and boost the worthy cause by purchasing Terry Fox Run 2025 t-shirts, with all proceeds marked for Cancer Research Malaysia.

The history of the Terry Fox Run goes back to 1980, when 22-year-old Terry Fox, who lost his leg to bone cancer, ran 5,374 kilometres (3,339 miles) across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Through rain, snow and heat, he continued his Marathon of Hope until he was forced to stop because cancer appeared in his lungs. He passed away the following year, but not before raising 24 million Canadian dollars for the cause.

Moved by Terry’s courage and his vision of a cancer-free world, Four Seasons founder Isadore Sharp pledged to continue his mission. Together with several sponsors, he organised the first-ever Terry Fox Run in 1981, drawing more than 300,000 participants. Today, more than 9,000 Terry Fox Memorial Runs take place around the world each year, supported by Four Seasons in numerous locations.
