Surrender to a Sublime Sensory Symphony with the New Afternoon Tea at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon

The Valrhona saying goes: chocolate is enjoyed; grand chocolat is experienced.  In the artisan spirit of the world’s finest chocolate, Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon invites guests to embark on an indulgent assault on the senses this winter with its limited-edition Chocolate Afternoon Tea, available daily through March 31, 2019.

Created by Pastry Chef Fabian Nguyen – ably assisted by his equally chocolate-loving Sous Chef, Diogo Lopes – Chocolate Afternoon Tea is a playful "forest floor feast for the eyes," and that’s just the opening act.

A dark chocolate tree trunk twists into fondant leaves and branches adorned with chocolate cabosses, bonbons and mini chocolate bars. Manjari chocolate tarts are topped with raspberries and finished with a liquid gold layer; chocolate cake comes topped with delicate Jivara feuilletine; floral-embellished chocolate and yuzu macarons are filled with a decadent cacao grué; praline and pecan éclairs are gilded in gold leaf, the Pastry Chef’s signature scones with chunky chocolate chips, and if one still has room, there are savoury finger sandwiches too.

And for the ultimate sensory crescendo, the experience is topped with the arrival of Mi-cuit of Araguani: a unique, complex take on a melt-in-the-mouth lava cake, combining 72 percent Araguani chocolate on the outside and liquid milk chocolate and hazelnut Azélia at its centre – two classic Valrhona flavours and a Nguyen’s favourite pairing.

Joachim Jacob, the Hotel's Food and Beverage Director, shares: “The Chocolate Afternoon Tea is a mouth-watering manifestation of the ‘melting’ together of two masters of their crafts.  Our expert pastry team only works with Valrhona chocolate, produced in a small village in France for nearly a century.  It’s something that has to be experienced to be believed.”

The Chocolate Afternoon Tea is the newest edition of the Hotel’s rolling themed Afternoon Teas. Looking ahead, the Jacaranda Afternoon Tea is scheduled for May when the city’s 2,000 jacarandas bloom creating a glorious lilac canopy and unmissable spring spectacle.
