Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon Splashes into Summer with a New South-Facing, Heated Outdoor Pool with Underwater Music
Lisbon is the sunniest capital city in mainland Europe, boasting an average of more than 300 sunny days a year, and finding a luxury hotel with an outside pool in the city centre is a rare gem, so Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon should be top of anyone’s wish list for a hot summer’s day in the capital. With panoramic views of the treetops of Eduardo VII Park, a poolside bar and terrace with ruby red décor and sun loungers, this is the best spot in the city for an alfresco swim.
Guilherme Costa, General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon comments, “We are thrilled to showcase the new look of our outdoor spaces, the last piece of the puzzle of our Hotel’s renovation and a key part of our transformation into a true urban resort. Two years ago, we embarked in multiple new projects starting with our new gastro restaurant CURA, renovated rooms and suites, the outside terrace, and now we are launching the outside pool. The Hotel is a favourite spot for locals, and Lisbon is a much-loved city to many all over the world and I am proud to offer guests a special experience and more unforgettable memories when visiting the City of Seven Hills."
The project for the new pool by OPENBOOK Architecture had as its starting point the Hotel’s existing architectural line, respecting and maintaining the identity of a building, which is classified as a Monument of Public Interest.
For the new outdoor area of the pool bar and swimming pool at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon, OPENBOOK Architecture intended to create the atmosphere of a city resort, which would take full advantage of the connection to Eduardo VII Park, whereby a guest lying by the pool or having a drink at the bar will feel part of the park's greenery and be transported outside the urban environment of the city.
According to João Cortes, OPENBOOK Architecture Partner, “The organic contour of the new pool is inspired by the initial models of the Hotel, designed by Architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro. The new design was developed in a style that combines the modernist lines and the more formal geometry of the building, with a more organic base, including some principles that also inspired Burle Marx, landscaper who accompanied Niemeyer. It's an approach that seeks to soften, sweeten and ensure the experience of the space is more in line with the purpose for which it is intended.”
The bar, covered with handcrafted tiles and in a pure circular shape, allows its full opening onto the terrace and green areas, creating the feeling of hovering over Eduardo VII Park. The Pool Bar will serve an ever-rotating menu of refreshing drinks, ranging from frozen slushes to Lisbon-inspired cocktails and petiscos.
Among the new amenities guests will find to enhance a day at the south-facing pool:
- Comfortable, well-spaced lounge chairs perfect for sunbathing, reading and an afternoon nap
- Continuously heated to 27 C (80 F)
- Underwater music
- Lush landscaping, which gives the area the feel of a garden oasis in the city
- Breath-taking views of Eduardo VII Park
During non-peak pool times, the Pool Bar area will also be available for rent as an event space, ideal for everything from micro-weddings and receptions to executive meetings and team-building retreats.
The time to experience the city’s most iconic hotel is now. The Hotel’s new pool area is a sophisticated oasis perfect for a relaxing dip with a cocktail in hand in the City of Seven Hills. The Hotel’s new restaurant CURA is the city’s gastronomic hot-spot, and the Hotel’s newly-renovated guest rooms and suites by OITOEMPONTO are ready for guests to experience.
