Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, the Forbes Five-Star oceanfront resort on Mexico's Riviera Nayarit, announces the return of Catrinas Fest, a three-day culinary and cultural celebration honouring Día de Muertos. Taking place October 30 through November 1, 2026, the weekend brings together chef-led dining experiences, live performances, family activities and a community altar dedicated to remembrance. This year's culinary program is anchored by an all-female guest chef lineup spanning Mexico City to Tijuana.

The lineup reflects a broader shift underway in Mexican gastronomy, where women chefs are reviving native ingredients, training the next generation of talent, and shaping what modern Mexican cuisine looks like today. Over three days, Chef Lula Martín del Campo of Mexico City, Chef Yesenia Ríos of Tijuana, Chef Leslie Durso of Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and Chef Sandra Flores López of Naviva®, A Four Seasons Resort bring that momentum to Catrinas Fest, each offering her own point of view on the food, memory and place at the center of Día de Muertos. The visiting chefs open the celebration with live stations at Friday night's dinner, then come together to lead the four-course Tertulia Night, each course a distinct expression of Mexican cuisine, from Mexico City flavours to the traditions of the Nayarit table.

"At its heart, Día de Muertos is about remembering, sharing stories and coming together around the people we love," says John O'Sullivan, Regional Vice President and General Manager, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. "Catrinas Fest brings those traditions to life through extraordinary food, meaningful rituals and experiences that invite guests to appreciate the richness of Mexican culture with curiosity and respect."

Throughout the weekend, a traditional ofrenda (altar) serves as the heart of the festivities. Guests are invited to contribute personal tributes, including photographs and small offerings, creating a living space of remembrance that honours family, friends and loved ones who have passed.

Happenings include:

Día de Muertos Dinner at Dos Catrinas (Friday, October 30 | 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm)

An immersive opening-night features live chef stations hosted by the guest chefs alongside the resort's culinary team. Highlights include Catrina hostesses and stilt walkers, a face-painting station for guests and a live band.

Tertulia Night at Dos Catrinas (Saturday, October 31 | 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm)

The weekend's signature evening presents an elegant four-course plated dinner led by the all-female guest chef lineup, honoring Mexican cuisine and storytelling through food. Designed as a conversation around the table, the dinner invites guests to discover not only the flavours of each dish, but also the people, places and traditions behind it. Live mariachi accompanies the meal. Following dinner, the night continues at MEZ Bar with a DJ, a live saxophonist and specialty cocktails.

  • Chef Lula Martín del Campo: Named Chef of the Year for 2024 by Guía México Gastronómico and for 2025 by Food and Travel México, Chef Lula leads Cascabel in Mexico City's Santa Fe district, where her "Culinary Heritage of Mexico" menu builds dishes around corn, beans and chile to spotlight native ingredients at risk of disappearing, and Marea in Roma Norte, a seafood, corn and mezcal concept developed with architect Alberto Kalach.
  • Chef Yesenia Ríos: Chef Yesenia trained at Dos Cielos in Barcelona and Alcalde in Guadalajara before returning to her native Tijuana to develop menus and train kitchen teams across Mexico and the United States, sees cooking as a way of preserving memory and sharing the identity of a place through its ingredients.
  • Chef Leslie Durso: Serving as Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita’s plant-based chef, Chef Leslie is a leading voice in mindful dining for a style that pairs indulgence with wellness and sophistication with accessibility
  • Chef Sandra Flores López: A Tepic, Nayarit native, Chef Sandra leads the pastry team at Naviva®, A Four Seasons Resort, bringing a career built across Velas Resorts and Four Seasons properties and national collaborations with chocolate houses Callebaut and Jean-Marie.

The weekend concludes with a traditional breakfast featuring Pan de Muerto, the sweet bread baked to honour and remember loved ones during Día de Muertos, alongside à la carte offerings.
