Visitors can meet and interact with the artists and witness their masterpieces in the making – experiencing first hand their creative process.
Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe will host the following artists in residence during the program:
Cheri O’Brien
American contemporary narrative artist Cheri O’Brien is a Pacific Northwest native, and self-taught artist since the age of five. Creating singular works of art, O’Brien’s seemingly casual aesthetic shifts emphasis from outrageous and funky to tender and charming. Re-creating childlike images with recurring motifs such as dogs, stuffed animals, flowers and religious iconography, O’Brien attempts to understand her world with finding humour in beauty and the beauty of humour. At first glance, her colourful, narrative oil paintings seem to be whimsical reflections of her surroundings, family and several muses. A closer look reveals the layers of meaning, sometimes melancholic, other times, joyful.
Cheri O’Brien will be staying at the Resort November 16-18, 2018 and her schedule of events is as follows:
- Friday, November 16, 2018 - Live Demo 4:00–7:00 pm
- Saturday, November 17, 2018 - Live Demo 9:00–11:00 am
- Sunday, November 18, 2018 - Live Demo 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Roberta Parry
Roberta Parry’s strong yet lyrical paintings reflect her affinity for watercolour and the impact on her work of light and colour. As she says, “I love the spontaneity of watercolour, its freedom of flow, the surprises, and the challenge to master or at least control the independence of its gentle yet willful nature. I do still lifes now and then, but I am particularly attracted to landscapes. Colour and light are the elements that most strike my sensuous core, and transparent watercolour seems to best capture for me the vibrancy and translucence of sky, earth, water, and all that grows and travels therein. I may know where I want to go, but getting there is always an adventure.”
Parry studied art at the University of Arizona in Tucson, from which she graduated with a degree in elementary education, and at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
Roberta Parry will be staying at the Resort January 4-6, 2019, and her schedule of events is as follows:

Irene Owsley
The fusion of wilderness, rugged landscape, adventure, and geography is what drives photographer Irene Owsley. She studies maps with intensity. First comes exploration and immersion in the outdoors – often involving a tripod, pack and tent – and then contemplation of form and light, how they come together to present a palette of subtle or dramatic but undeniable beauty. For Owsley, just the experience of being in the natural elements precedes the impetus to express it with film or pixels.
Irene is known for her panoramas using a tripod head specially machined to allow one to accurately pan across a scene. She captures single vertical frames that are then stitched together in Photoshop by masking seams and matching elements from one image to the next. Irene and her work on panoramas have been featured in such publications as Rangefinder, Photographer’s Forum, and Nikon World magazine and hangs on the walls in private homes, offices and the National Institutes of Health in the Washington DC area.
Irene is also drawn to explore northern extremes – Iceland, Greenland, Alaska and Arctic Canada – a passion that has expanded her library of stock images for publication. Her work has appeared in such magazines as Canoe & Kayak, Sierra, National Parks, Earthwatch, and Natural History as well as in publications of The National Forest Foundation, The Wilderness Society, The Potomac Conservancy and The Natural Resources Defense Council.
Irene Owsley will be staying at the Resort February 8-10, 2018, and her schedule of events is as follows:
- Friday, February 8, 2018 - Live Demo 4:00–7:00 pm
