Mix Magic: Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen Launches New Locally-Inspired Yi Lounge Cocktail Menu

Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen brings a fresh twist to Yi Lounge’s chic mixology offering: an innovative new eight-strong cocktail menu inspired by the region's unique Tong Sui and the enduring gifts of nature.

Celebrating the essences and flavours of Shenzhen, four of the cocktails are based on Cantonese Tong Sui - a sweet dessert-style soup served at the end of a Chinese meal. The remaining four are sustainably crafted as a tribute the vibrant local produce of Shenzhen's eternal springtime.

The Tong Sui cocktails evoke sensory memories of childhoods spent sipping iced mung bean soup and savouring bowls of sesame paste in the region's traditional tong sui shops. Take Garret, a delicious riff on Hong Kong milk tea with peanut butter rum, pear jam, toffee candy syrup, Chinese chestnut milk and breakfast tea. Add the bean paste, jasmine, jujube and lotus seed delights of Cherish, and the peppery green mango, osmanthus and golden pomelo liquor notes of Green Years for a tantalising trip into a bygone past.

Crafted in line with environmental principles, the remaining four cocktails shine a light on the importance of zero waste mixology and sustainable sourcing. Each feature bar-boiled, home-infused or locally grown ingredients from pineapple-peel syrup to recycled coffee grounds transformed into homemade coffee rum. Highlights include Grassland, a refreshing verdant blend of cucumber, basil, lime, coriander and capsicum frutescens mixed with sesame oil gin and ginger vermouth. Then there's rose-red Joy, combining Nordés gin and absinthe with pineapple rose jam and Earl tea tincture.

The new cocktail menu has been created by Yi Lounge's Chief Bartender, master mixologist Eden Yao. Acclaimed for her cool, innovative style and technical expertise, Eden has shaped the mixology of some of China’s most celebrated venues, as well as winning awards including the Top Ten in East China in the Tío Pepe Challenge cocktail competition.
