British Classics Mingle with Japanese Flavours at Festive Afternoon Tea Hosted by Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi

This December, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi reimagines British teatime traditions with a seasonal Japanese flair to set the tone for celebration. Dressed in holiday colours, the Festive Afternoon Tea unwraps stunning savoury and sweet treats in the sunlit setting of MAISON MARUNOUCHI, the Hotel’s Michelin-selected bistro.

The savoury selection is masterfully curated by Executive Chef Daniel Calvert of SÉZANNE, whose English roots shine through in every bite. Guests can look forward to iconic English delights such as dainty Tea Sandwiches with coronation chicken, crisp cucumber, and the all-time favourite smoked salmon with cream cheese. Adding a Japanese flourish, the salmon is topped with jewelled ikura (salmon roe) in a nod to local flavours. The menu also features imaginatively crafted light bites such as the Devilled Egg Tartlet and Wagyu Empanada.

On the sweeter side, Executive Pastry Chef Patrick Thibaud presents an array of magical desserts, designed around the finest seasonal ingredients and adorned with cherished festive motifs.

The Black Forest layers rich chocolate with the tart sweetness of Amarena cherries, a winter classic, while the Baked Cheesecake Mikan glows with the zesty brightness of Japan’s beloved mikan (Japanese mandarin), cloaked in a snow-white finish. The Fraisier offers a vibrant red-and-green composition of strawberry jelly and pistachio cream, while the Mont Blanc captures the season’s enchantment with its delicate chestnut and vanilla layers.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper celebration without a slice of freshly baked Mince Pie, brimming with festive spices, spirits and dried fruits. Here, the six-month-aged filling is carefully stirred - clockwise, in keeping with long-standing custom - to invite health and prosperity in the coming year.
