Romance Blossoms at Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of the Lanna Kingdom, yet modern and cosmopolitan, is one of the most romantic destinations in Thailand. Nicknamed the “Rose of the North,” it is an ideal destination for fun-filled, active, and opportunity-rich holidays, especially for couples. The lush green fields, towering mountains, languid waterfalls, ancient temples, varied cuisine, swanky bars, serene spas, bountiful boutiques, and inspiring galleries make up a vibrant, romantic atmosphere. “Chiang Mai offers an abundance of opportunities for ‘we time,’ making memories as you discover new places, share new experiences, and learn new things – together!” smiles Anthony Tschudin, Resort Manager.
The romantic setting of Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai is elevated by the unique countryside that lends itself naturally to an intimate experience. This tropical sanctuary offers a wide array of immersive activities. “Active couples can bike through the Mae Rim valley or learn the art of Thai cooking, while those looking simply to unwind can indulge in spa treatments for two. Whatever the mood, you are sure to create lasting memories at our Resort,” adds Tschudin.
Stirring Up Love: A Culinary Adventure for Couples
At Rim Tai Kitchen, the culinary program led by Thai chef instructors is more than a cooking lesson; “it’s a test of compatibility for couples,” grins Chef Suwattana Boonyarattananusorn, who helms the culinary program at Rim Tai Kitchen. Here, couples can discover the Resort’s herb and vegetable garden where the chef examines fresh, indigenous ingredients used in the cooking lesson. “A stop at the traditional Thai spirit house to receive a blessing is essential,” he adds. A hands-on lesson in preparing delicious Thai dishes follows, where the principles of Thai cuisine and the equipment essential to a Thai kitchen are discovered. “Enjoy your preparations over lunch afterwards,” says the chef. Guests can choose from one of six signature programs, each offering a unique culinary adventure.
Dining Amid Nature: Private Meals in the Rice Fields
As the sun graces the sky with its gentle warmth, a private breakfast or dinner amid emerald rice paddies, overlooking the lake in a rustic Rice Barn adds just the right amount of romance. Guests can relish the chef's signature breakfast or a five-course dinner, all in the soft glow of moonlight and candlelight, accompanied by intricate flower arrangements and soothing background music. Either pre-dinner or post-breakfast, the award-winning Wara Cheewa Spa tempts with holistic therapies that focus on pampering, while indulging in traditional Thai massages, herbal treatments, and moments of pure serenity within a tranquil setting.
Enchanting Evenings and Cultural Treasures of Chiang Mai
Explore the vibrant transformation of Chiang Mai as day turns into night, with the city's bustling night markets coming to life. “The Night Bazaar and the Sunday Walking Street Market are among the most popular,” shares Ashok Nair, Director of Rooms and Residences. Guests can scour the streets together, savouring local street food, admiring captivating street performances, and discovering unique souvenirs—a delightful and charming way to spend an evening together. “The old-world charm of Chiang Mai is one to be discovered by foot,” he suggests or renting bicycles to explore the historic Old City. From ancient temples and charming alleyways, to marvel traditional architecture, the backdrop is romantic and enchanting all at once. “Don't miss the sunset at Wat Phra Singh, where the temple's golden spires and intricate architecture transform into a magical spectacle,” Nair recommends.
In the serene Mae Rim district, the Wat Pa Dara Pirom Buddhist Temple stands as a testament to Lanna style architecture, surrounded by lush tropical flora. “While the temple is popular with guests, it is not as crowded,” he tips. The most interesting aspect of visiting this site is to be able to have a one-on-one chat with the monks, organised exclusively for the Resort's guests.
Another recommended experience in the Resort team’s unpacking list is hot-air ballooning. “Guests can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Chiang Mai, soaking in the splendour and magic of the city that has been romanticised for centuries.
Floral Wonders: Experiencing Chiang Mai’s Blossoming Beauty
A visit in early February is highlighted by the annual Chiang Mai Flower Festival, which celebrates the local people’s love for flowers. “Stroll hand-in-hand through the vibrant flower display, enjoy floral parades, and immerse yourselves in the beauty of the city in full bloom,” smiles Tschudin. There are a few places worth visiting, such as the Royal Park Rajapruek with large greenhouses and beautifully arranged exotic plants, with an often-photographed temple at its centre. For the adventurous, a drive up to the top of Doi Suthep with a stop at the Faculty of Agriculture owned by Chiang Mai University is especially notable during the cherry blossom season in the early part of the year.
Chiang Mai’s love for nature is further displayed at the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden, the first of its kind in the country. “The garden encompasses more than 220 hectares (550 acres) of space, which allows for various climates catering to an array of different plants,” shares Nair. “While you will find plenty of plants native to the area, you can also see exotic species, typically found in an Asian tropical rainforest. The walking trails can turn your visit into a more romantic experience with breath-taking scenery.”
