A veteran hotelier, de Vries brings 15 years of hospitality management at Four Seasons hotels and resorts with a unique blend of urban hotel and luxury resort experiences to his new role as General Manager. Recognized for his innovation, creativity and drive to deliver exceptional service, de Vries will lead the 155-roomHhotel to elevate the guest experience and showcase the landmark property in the heart of downtown San Francisco.
Most recently, de Vries served as Resort Manager of Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, an award-winning property on Oahu’s western coast, anchored by an ethos of connection, community and the spirit of aloha. Under de Vries’ leadership, the Resort received the highest Guest Experience scores since the property’s opening in 2016. He will now cultivate his extensive leadership experience and passion as he guides Embarcadero into its latest chapter.
“San Francisco represents a sophisticated urban travel destination brimming with culture, iconic architecture, distinctive neighbourhoods, and prominent landmarks, that many – including myself – have enjoyed,” said de Vries. “As a quintessential part of the city’s skyline, I look forward to being a part of this boutique Hotel anchored by Four Seasons signature level of intuitive service while offering guests a curated hospitality experience.”
Originally from Milwaukee, de Vries’ illustrious Four Seasons career began in 2006 as Front Services Assistant Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Boston. From there, he held several positions before ascending to Director of Guest Services in 2012. In 2013, de Vries made the move to the west coast, promoted to Assistant Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. A few years later, de Vries returned east, as Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, where he would later be promoted to Hotel Manager in 2019.
Throughout his Four Seasons career, de Vries has made a name for himself with his ingenuity and visionary approach, rooted in championing a dynamic culture of inclusivity and community. Whether activating a pop-up rooftop restaurant to creating a platform for local artists-in-residence, he is renowned for his ability to develop the unexpected.
De Vries holds a bachelor’s degree in International Hospitality Management from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. As an architectural and cultural aficionado, de Vries, along with his husband, Jonas, look forward to exploring San Francisco’s vibrant art and museum scene.
