Nestled among jungle canopies, winding rivers, and time-honoured traditions, Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle marks its 20th anniversary as one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic luxury destinations. This milestone reflects the Camp’s evolution — staying true to its pioneering spirit while deepening its commitment to culture, community, and conservation. “From the beginning, the Tented Camp was envisioned as more than a place to stay — it was a place to feel deeply connected to nature, culture, and purpose,” says Sean Mosher, General Manager, Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai and Tented Camp Golden Triangle. “Twenty years on, that original spirit of adventure remains, enriched by a stronger sense of responsibility to the land, the people, and the stories that make this destination so extraordinary.”

A Vision of Adventure and Imagination

When the Camp opened in 2006, it was a bold vision — a luxury experience that embraced the romance of exploration while respecting its surroundings. At a time when “glamping” was unheard of in the region, this 15-tent sanctuary redefined adventure travel — not as escapism, but as a connection to the land. The vision was clear: canvas tents infused with character, storytelling, and refinement, supported by Four Seasons signature service. “From the outset, the Camp invited guests not simply to stay, but to journey through customised itineraries — into nature, into culture, and into a slower, more meaningful ‘off the grid’ rhythm of life,” adds Sean.

The Human Legacy Behind the Canvas

The heart of the Camp’s story lies in its people. Many team members have been part of the journey since opening day, carrying forward a sense of pride and belonging. “They are the true soul of the Tented Camp,” beams Paweena Waraha, Camp Manager. “From day one, our team has been committed to not just hospitality, but to creating an experience that celebrates this extraordinary place. Every person here, from our gardeners to our guides, plays a role in shaping this authentic experience.”

Redefining Luxury Glamping in Southeast Asia

As the first luxury tented camp of its kind in Southeast Asia, the Camp established a new category of travel. Elevated walkways, outdoor baths overlooking the Ruak River, handcrafted furnishings, and curated antiques created a sense of discovery, while never compromising on comfort. This balance of wilderness and elegance became the Camp’s signature. “Guests wake up to birdsong and jungle mist, yet return each evening to refined dining, personalised service, and beautifully layered interiors that feel both indulgent and soulful,” shares Paweena.

Designs Rooted in Nature and Story

Rather than chasing trends, the Camp has allowed its design to mature gracefully, evolving while preserving the narrative that makes it so distinctive. Renowned architect and designer Bill Bensley’s timeless philosophy has endured because it was grounded in nature, local culture, and adventure. “Many original elements still define the Camp today — handcrafted materials, layered textures, curated antiques, and thoughtful details that reward curiosity,” adds Paweena. While design refinements honour the original vision, they deepen the Camp’s sense of place through local craftsmanship and natural materials.

Lasting Community Relationships

Over two decades, the Camp’s guest experience has evolved in step with changing traveller sensibilities. What began as “luxury adventure” has shifted toward cultural discovery, wellness, and storytelling — without losing the intimacy and charm that define the tented camp experience.

Relationships with local communities underscore the sense of community. Artisans, farmers, and local specialists are woven into every aspect of the guest experience — from handwoven textiles and signature bags crafted in Wang Lao villages to organic vegetables and coffee beans sourced from local farmers. “These connections have created meaningful economic impact, providing steady income for artisans, farmers, and small businesses while safeguarding traditional skills for future generations,” says Paweena.

Guests are invited to engage directly through activities such as weaving, bamboo crafting, and traditional fishing, forging genuine connections to the land and its people. Northern Thai traditions are celebrated through monk blessings, cooking experiences, and seasonal festivals such as Loy Krathong, ensuring that cultural heritage is not only preserved but shared with pride.

Guardians of the Golden Triangle: Conservation with Purpose

The Camp’s relationship with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) is central to its identity. Together, the Camp and GTAEF have created opportunities for learning and compassion, improving welfare standards and supporting families. This commitment has earned global recognition, including a Global Spirit Award for excellence in elephant welfare.

Sustainability is embedded in the Camp’s daily operations. Single-use plastics have been reduced, and water is managed carefully and reused for irrigation. Waste is minimised through composting and recycling, and materials are sourced responsibly with an emphasis on local, natural, and reusable products. “Guests are encouraged to actively participate in sustainability efforts, such as tree planting and community-led workshops,” remarks Paweena.

Marking 20 Years with Meaning

To commemorate this special occasion, the Camp has launched a 20th Anniversary Experience Package, featuring exclusive activities and personalised touches. The Camp also presents a new signature experience, Breakfast in the Jungle, inviting guests to venture out by car to a secluded setting in the heart of the peninsula, where a private chef prepares a bespoke breakfast. The experience concludes with a serene return by boat, accompanied by fresh air and breathtaking natural surroundings.

Paweena shares, “We will also introduce a series of initiatives throughout 2026 that celebrate both nature and community,” including a tree-planting ceremony on January 15, 2026 and the launch of 20 community projects supporting local schools, artisans, farmers, and conservation organizations.

As part of Four Seasons collection in Thailand, the Camp remains a symbol of purposeful luxury. “For 20 years, we’ve brought together the spirit of adventure with the comfort of luxury glamping,” reflects Sean. “It’s not just about creating unforgettable experiences — it’s about connecting guests to nature in a way that feels authentic, deeply personal, and profoundly transformative.”
