A Hawaiian native and lifelong steward of Hawaii’s land and sea, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai Director of Natural Resources and Sustainability, Nicole Tachibana, brings more than 15 years of environmental and hospitality experience to the storied Resort. Originally joining Hualalai through the University of Hawaii’s PIPES internship program back in 2009, she has since become a driving force behind the Resort’s sustainability initiatives—leading outreach, ecosystem management, and conservation programs. Starting as the resort’s Natural Resource Specialist/Outreach Coordinator, Nicole has evolved with the program and now holds the position as the Director of Natural Resources and Sustainability.

With a background in marine science from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Nicole oversees projects ranging from oyster restoration and aquaculture to community marine monitoring and guest education. Her work not only protects Hualalai’s natural ecosystems but also integrates sustainability into the guest experience—highlighting local aquaculture, organizing hands-on activations like oyster tastings, and championing eco-innovation across departments. Her deep-rooted connection to the environment and passion for regenerative tourism make her a key voice in the future of luxury hospitality.

Nicole is deeply committed to community engagement and staff development, actively collaborating with organizations like the Hui Kahuwai Marine Life Advisory Committee and the Nature Conservancy of Hawaiʻi community monitoring program to help the Resort care for native land and ecosystems. Internally, she prioritizes a strong workplace culture, ensuring that team members feel valued and connected to Hualalai’s greater mission. In the years to come, Nicole is committed to spearheading new systems and initiatives that will further expand the resort’s sustainability efforts, positioning it as a standout destination for eco-conscious tourism and true celebration of Hawaii.
