Four Seasons Resort Hualalai Partners with Kuleana Rum for Custom Hualalai Rum Blend

Local Hawaii Island rum producer creates exclusive rum made from 100 percent cane sugar
Hawaii, Hualalai, U.S.A.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai announces partnership with Hawaiian rum producer Kuleana Rum.  Based in Kona just minutes from the Resort, Kuleana Rum uses 100 percent local cane sugar to create the highest quality local rum. Four Seasons Resort Hualalai selected to collaborate with Kuleana Rum for the brand’s craftsmanship and specific local characteristics of the final product.

Kuleana Rum grows 40 varieties of Hawaiian heirloom cane sugar at their 45-acre (18 hectare) farm in Kohala. The cane sugar is harvested by hand, pressed and distilled to create multiple varieties of rum. Each variety of sugar brings a distinct flavour to the rum, allowing for the creation of a unique final product, the Hui Hui Hualalai Blend.

Hui Hui Hualalai Blend is a unique rum that was developed both for sipping and mixing in cocktails. Through speaking with the Resort’s beverage program leaders and mixologists, Kuleana Rum embraced the hyper-local focus of Hualalai and created a blend that highlights both fruity and earthy notes, while allowing the Hawaiian cane sugar to shine. Sugar has a storied past in Hawaii, and the Resort’s Hui Hui Hualalai Blend is one way this integral part of Hawaiian history lives on.

The new Hui Hui Hualalai Blend is featured throughout the Resort’s restaurants and bars in innovative cocktails.  The purest and most traditional take of these cocktails is the Mauka Berry Mojito at ULU Ocean Grill, which features Kuleana Rum muddled with local blackberries and mint, lime, and club soda. At Beach Tree, the Captain Ed includes pineapple-infused Kuleana rum mixed with lime, orgeat, orange curacao, and Lahaina Dark Rum. Winner of multiple Mai Tai contests, Miller & Lux Hualalai offers Jeff’s Fresh Pressed Tai, combining the rum with fresh muddled pineapple, orange, lime, orgeat, and agave.

Guests are invited to visit the Kuleana farm and distillery located on the Kohala coast of Hawaii Island. At the farm, guests can learn about the storied history of sugarcane in Hawaii, rooted in the Polynesian Wayfinders planting two to four original varietals, or canoe plants. From these, they developed about 35 varietals, unique to Hawaii, which were cherished for their distinct flavours and colours. For those looking for a tasting of all of Kuleana's local rums, guests may visit the Kuleana Rum Shack for rum flights and Mai Tai cocktail classes.
