Taryn Shackleton

Chef Concierge
“Jackson Hole is the ultimate ski town, but it’s so much more than that. My job is giving our Four Seasons guests the perfect adventure-filled itinerary, inclusive of both traditional luxury experiences and the more rugged, western experiences found only in Jackson.”

Originally born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Chef Concierge Taryn Shackleton grew up with a fondness for – and familiarity with – cold weather. Chilly temps did little to tamper her adventurous spirit, and all seasons presented equal opportunity to #optoutside. An avid snowboarder, she credits a popular snowboarding documentary shot in Jackson Hole – That’s It, That’s All – with sparking her interest in coming to the destination. When she saw the film, Taryn fell in love with Jackson Hole’s majesty and culture, and knew it was going to be her home one day.

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in luxury hospitality operations from Niagara University in Lewiston, New York in 2012, Taryn began her hospitality career in a boutique hotel in Buffalo, followed by management roles in Boston, and then Moab, Utah. Her next steps led her to Jackson Hole, where she worked at a hotel in the Valley in the rooms division, managing both the front desk and housekeeping departments. When the opportunity came to join Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole in winter 2017, Taryn gladly interviewed for a position at Base Camp, launching her Four Seasons career. In 2021, she accepted the role of Chef Concierge, leading a team of seven other individuals at the AAA Five-Diamond property.

“Becoming Chef Concierge is the greatest accomplishment of my career, and I couldn't be happier to have the opportunity to share my passion for the Teton Valley with our guests,” explains Taryn. She loves being at the helm of the Concierge team, where employees are encouraged to be their true selves and let their personalities shine. She adds, “I believe guests are looking for that personal connection. They want the 'howdys' and the ski-shop jargon, and jeans with suit coats and cowboy hats on the front drive when they first pull in. They want to live like a local while they are here, and trust the Concierge team will curate experiences to create memories to last a lifetime.”

Dining options are abundant in Jackson Hole, and Taryn and her team are always ready with a personal recommendation. “I never liked or ate Thai food until moving to Jackson, but I do believe we have some of the best. My favourite restaurant in town is Teton Tiger, and my go-to order is a vodka Bombay Buck and the red curry duck.” Other top dishes around town include the steak tartare pizza at Snake River Grill; blue cheese waffle fries at Trio, an American Bistro; and the Basil Martini at Il Villaggio Osteria.

Outside of work, Taryn’s main focus is stay healthy and fit.  She has hiked almost every trail in Grand Teton National Park, and loves sharing personal hiking tips with her guests. A self-proclaimed hot springs lover, she is always on the lookout for a new spot to recommend for soaking. “I love guests who are interested in the longer, strenuous hikes, where they are really getting into the backcountry. That's where the real magic is,” she says.
