October 4, 2024,
Madrid, Spain

The first hotel to be opened Four Seasons in Spain is celebrating four years of success and recognition, as well as a firm commitment to sustainability and value creation. After becoming the only hotel in Spain to stand among the World’s 50 Best Hotels, Four Seasons Hotel Madrid has already received more than 15 major national and international prizes and awards in reflection of the joint effort, dedication and unwavering commitment from an extraordinary team that works hard every day to offer excellence. All this is accompanied by the initiatives it has been launching since it opened to create a positive impact on society and as part of its commitment to the local community.

Creating Value in the Local Community

“Working with various projects that highlight our culture and share the same values as us is part of our DNA,” says Paloma Arias-Perero, Director of People and Culture at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid.

Besides its achievements in terms of sustainability, Four Seasons Hotel Madrid has forged strong ties with the local community by playing an active role in initiatives that support social and economic development in the region.   The Hotel has created jobs and helped to revitalise one of the most iconic parts of the city by promoting a positive impact in the urban environment. By promoting charity initiatives and through strategic partnerships with such institutions as Fundación Alapar, which works for the rights of people with mental disabilities, or Fundación HogarSi, which combats homelessness and fights for social and employment reinsertion, the Hotel has positioned itself as a key player in shifting Madrid towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.  “Since the Hotel opened, the diversity and integration of different profiles has been a priority, not only through the presence of 43 different nationalities at our company but also, and above all, through the diversity of the people who form part of the Four Seasons family,” says Paloma Arias-Perero. “Our main project in 2024/2025 is to ensure that the legal obligation to have two percent of employees with disability is achieved through direct hires and, furthermore, through people with mental disabilities; a project we are working on hand-in-hand alongside the Fundación PRODIS in Madrid,” says the director.

Moreover, Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is focused on a future for young people under its partnership with such associations as Fundación Tomillo, with which it organises guidance and recruitment interview days to boost the employability of young people at risk of social exclusion, or the Pinardi association, which is dedicated to offering social and employment opportunities to various socially vulnerable groups.

To improve the social conditions and meet the basic needs of people at risk of exclusion, the Hotel has also joined such associations as Fundación Altius, which offers food donations every Tuesday and Thursday, as well as the option to engage in a monthly volunteering day for its 1kg of Help Market. The Hotel’s social commitment to the local community also extends to such organisations as TaxiLuz, Fundación Dales la Palabra, Cruz Roja and Cris contra el Cáncer, among others, reaffirming its dedication to fostering development and having a positive impact on the local community.

Through initiatives that support both people and the planet, Four Seasons Hotel Madrid and the Centro Canalejas stand out as social and environmental responsibility benchmarks in the heart of the city.

Centro Canalejas, the complex that includes Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, has earned the prestigious LEED-NC Gold certification from the US Green Building Council, international recognition that celebrates its design and construction according to the very highest sustainability standards. This achievement reflects the Hotel’s commitment to energy efficiency, the responsible use of resources and reducing its carbon footprint. The building has been designed with environmental criteria in mind that range from the use of advanced technologies to the integration of systems that optimise water and energy consumption.

Electric Mobility and Renewable Energy to Serve the Community

As part of its commitment to sustainable mobility, Four Seasons Madrid has installed electric charging points in its car park, as well as in the Centro Canalejas Car Park, to encourage the use of electric vehicles and making the transition over to a cleaner city somewhat easier. Furthermore, the Hotel is exclusively powered by renewable energy, guaranteeing that all the energy used in Centro Canalejas Madrid comes from clean sources, thereby maintaining its long-term environmental commitment.

Innovation Aimed at Reducing the Environmental Impact

The Hotel also remains consistently committed to innovation. By incorporating artificial intelligence to reduce food waste, the Hotel has successfully streamlined its processes in the kitchen to minimise waste and guarantee a responsible use of resources. These initiatives not only enhance its sustainability focus but also foster responsible practices within the Hotel community, setting an example for all other hotels everywhere.

For a Sustainable Future

Four Seasons Hotel Madrid constantly reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and the community. It will continue to lead initiatives that promote environmental wellbeing so as to keep contributing to the sustainable development of the Spanish capital. From emissions reduction to support for the local community, the Hotel aspires to be a benchmark for responsibility in the hotel sector and to define Madrid as an increasingly greener city that is more connected with its environment.
