Design Aesthetic:
Set within a 4.7-acre organic Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley is the region’s first and only resort built around a working winery. A collaboration between St. Helena-based designer Erin Martin and global firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the resort embodies a refined, modern farmhouse-chic aesthetic rooted in Napa Valley’s agricultural and artistic heritage.
From residential-style guest rooms and vineyard-view villas to curated public spaces and immersive local art, every space reflects the raw beauty of the valley, with weathered wood, forged iron, and hand-thrown ceramics, and embraces an open-air lifestyle designed to inspire connection, discovery, and a true sense of place.
Key Design Features:
- Custom headboards, indoor fireplaces, deep soaking tubs, private patios or balconies, and wine fridges in every guest room and suite
- Bathrooms featuring petrified wood elements, sourced from Calistoga’s nearby Petrified Forest
- Buoy-inspired lighting fixtures in the villas, a subtle nod to the region’s rustic farming and fishing roots
- Vineyard bark décor and reclaimed wood finishes woven throughout the public spaces
- Hand-painted maps by Napa artist Nick Cann, illustrating the valley’s topography and local landmarks
Art & Cultural Collaborations:
Curated by Kevin Barry Art Advisory, the resort’s collection showcases regional and international artists whose work honours the land, labour, and legacy of Napa Valley:
- NBC Pottery, an Angwin-based husband-and-wife duo, created the lobby’s signature installation: 24 ombré-glazed ceramic hats, a tribute to vineyard and farm workers
- At Auro, NBC Pottery designed custom ceramic vessels -- plates and bowls tailored to the seven-course Michelin-star experience.
- In the Elusa Tasting Salon, Lisa Kokin’s mixed-media sculpture made of upcycled gardening books and copper wire celebrates the labour of viticulture
- A suspended copper installation by Cannonball Studios, created by firing a vintage cannon at metal sheets, adds movement and texture to the winery
- Carmen McNall’s carved wood mural in the lobby captures the landscape and the hands that harvest it.
- Above guest beds, Kyle Minor’s barrel-inspired metal discs echo vintage winemaking stencils
- From barn-inspired event spaces to intimate chef’s tables at Auro, every design choice tells a story rooted in the vines, the people, and the enduring spirit of Napa Valley.
