“Bali’s unique tranquillity and rich cultural heritage are integral to my life,” says I Ketut Sena, Resort Manager at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. “I’m proud to share the gifts of my homeland with my colleagues and our guests from across the globe.”

And for a quarter of a century, Sena has excelled in doing exactly that. A member of the team at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan since 2000, just two years after it opened, he has been instrumental in helping to define the award-winning experience of one of the world's most iconic properties.

Sena is also the first native Balinese to rise to the ranks of Resort Manager at the river valley haven. Throughout his time with Four Seasons - and his 30+ years in total in hospitality - Sena has carved an extraordinary career path, uniting exceptional business acumen with his natural warmth and people management skills.

Sena was born and raised in Tebongkang, a small village where farming was the primary occupation for most residents. While close to the bustling tourist destination of Ubud, Tebongkang remains a tranquil place, with a rich culture and well-preserved traditions. “I have a deep love for my village,” he says. “The peaceful ambience and close-knit community are continual sources of inspiration and rejuvenation for me.”

Accompanying his father to the rice fields where he played as a child, Sena often encountered tourists who were intrigued by their traditional way of life. Learning about different cultures sparked a dream for Sena: to work in the hospitality industry, sharing meaningful experiences with people from across the globe. Following a diploma in housekeeping, Sena worked at the Grand Hyatt Bali in various roles before joining Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan.

Throughout his time at the Resort, Sena has worked across many departments including Housekeeping, Front Office, Security and Rooms Operations, gaining acclaim for his outstanding management skills and team leadership. This inside-out understanding and skilful management of the hotel’s operations and logistics, combined with his emotional intelligence, made Sena the perfect choice for Resort Manager. With the trademark calm confidence that exemplifies his career, he now oversees more than 300 employees, alongside the Resort’s award-winning accommodation, dining outlets and facilities, and more than 73,000 guests per year.

“It’s a privilege to hold this position,” he says. “Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has been part of my life for more than two decades. It’s an extraordinary resort that honours the culture and heritage of Bali and touches all who visit. From signature experiences such as visits to meet local farmers, to our Pilgrim Temple Voyage, Balinese cooking, dance and arts classes, and immersive wellness experiences, we are dedicated to offering a deep connection to the authentic soul and traditions of this magical island.”

Throughout, Sena remains committed to honouring a Balinese ethos to life. “I’m passionate about creating a working environment that feels like a second home for all employees, fostering a supportive and caring atmosphere through open communication and sincerity, in line with the principles at the heart of Balinese culture,” he says. “By supporting every employee to feel good and deliver their very best, my team and I are dedicated to ensuring that our guests experience the true beauty of Bali – and make memories to last a lifetime.”
