For Ni Made Diyah Darma Yanti, known as Diyah, caring for the environment is not simply a profession, but a way of life. Guided by a lifelong love of nature, Diyah has dedicated her career to environmental education, advocacy and creating lasting change. With expertise spanning research and community engagement, she brings both scientific knowledge and heartfelt advocacy to her work in building a more sustainable future.

Diyah's passion for environmental stewardship was shaped by her upbringing in Bali, where cultural practices have, for generations, embraced what is today known as ‘sustainability’. Influenced by the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana – harmony with the divine, with one another, and with nature – Diyah was raised with a profound appreciation of the natural world, and a strong desire to protect it.

During Diyah's Applied Chemistry Master’s degree, her research into environmental impacts strengthened her motivation to create change. She participated in training programs and research initiatives before joining an environmental NGO. In 2022, she began her professional journey with PPLH Bali (The Environmental Education Centre): first as Program Coordinator for the Single-Use Plastics Initiative; then as lead for the Methane Emission Reduction Initiative, and most recently as Program Manager for Environmental Education.

Diyah brings her blend of dynamism and expertise to her role as Environment and Sustainability Manager at Four Seasons Resorts Bali. Above all, she is excited about creating impactful events and programs that go beyond the resorts to truly connect with the local community. “Change can only happen when everyone is involved,” she says.

Diyah also believes that luxury resorts play an important role in protecting Bali: by adopting more responsible practices; supporting local products and businesses, and promoting wider environmental awareness through education, campaigns, and sustainability programs.

Across Four Seasons Resorts Bali, she plans to build on initiatives such as Four Seasons for Good, as well as improving waste management, and increasing awareness among employees and guests about the ‘3R’ principles – reduce, reuse and recycle. Her vision is rooted in the understanding that we all have a role to play in creating lasting impact: "Environmental work is not only about solving problems today, but also about protecting the future for the next generations through small but meaningful actions that continue over time."

Beyond her role at the resorts, Diyah loves to work with her hands, crafting everything from crochet to eco-prints, cross-stitching and embroidery. She also sings and plays the guitar – “to slow down, express emotions, and take a break from busy routines.” In addition, she continues to contribute as a moderator and speaker at webinars and talks focused on environmental awareness. As ever, she finds peace in Bali’s beauty, especially during quiet moments on the beach at sunset. “It brings me a profound sense of calm and connection,” she says. “Nature always reminds me to be more present and to appreciate simple things around me.”
