Sensei Lanai sits in Koele – the lush, green upcountry said to be named for the moisture-laden clouds that came down from the mountain gulches.  The first hike, Koloiki Ridge, is a 4.9-mile (7.9 kilometre) hike accessible from the retreat grounds and gives hikers panoramic views after navigating through a Cook pine forest.  Next, guests will embark on the 5.1-mile (8.2 kilometre) Hi Trail, which combines the challenge of gradual elevation climbs with beautiful cultural moments, including a planting ceremony of the Ti leaf, a native plant currently being restored to the area, as well as breathtaking vistas of the Palawai Basin. Following Hii, journey to the iconic, must-see landmark of Lanai - PuuPehe, also known as Sweetheart Rock, via a short and accessible hike with breathtaking views. Starting from Hulopoe Beach, the trail is suitable for all skill levels. With a Sensei Guide leading the way, guests will not only enjoy stunning vistas of the Lanai coastline, Maui, and Kahoolawe but also gain unique insights into the natural beauty and cultural significance of this remarkable spot. Sunrise and sunset hikes provide especially magical moments, perfect for reflection or capturing memories. Lastly, the retreat will conclude with a captivating 5.3-mile (8.5 kilometre) journey traversing Kaiholena, ascending high above Cook pine treetops into the misty atmosphere of Koele, the traditionally spiritual uplands of Lanai.
